Prince's "Jam of the Year" similar to Candy Dulfer's "Saxy Mood?" I was listening to "Saxy Mood" From Candy Dulfer's 1997 CD "For the Love of You" and I noticed some similarities in the music to Prince's "Jam of the Year" from 1996's "Emancipation." Does anyone else hear the similarities? Listen to the first minute of each and let me know what you think!

Well I've never heard the Candy Dulfer track you're refering to, but I was actually going to post a thread about Prince songs that I find similar to other songs. That's what this thread is essentially about, right, so why not do it here?
But first, to comment on your post, Jam Of The Year came out in 96, Candy's track in 97, so Prince did it first, right?
I was thinking about it this week. Does anyone feel like the horn solo in Face Down right before the bass solo/third verse sounds awfully similar to Lenny Kravitz's horn section in the end of Always On The Run? It's like the same notes almost. But Lenny's song came out in what 91, 92, Emancipation didn't come out til 96, so did Prince just dig those horns so much he had to jack them? Shit is pretty funky.
Also, I've kind of noticed that the guitar parts, or maybe just the distortion setting on the guitars, in 319 and Skinny Puppy's Tin Omen are kind of similar. But Tin Omen came out in 89 and 319 in 95. Skinny Puppy did it first. If there was a similarity at all...
Speaking of Skinny Puppy, I've always kind of thought that Falling sounded a bit like parts from Erotic City, the mallet/whistle (?) sounds. But in this case, Prince would have done it first, if there was a similarity, as Erotic City came out in 84 and Bites came out in 85/86 I believe.
I don't know... it's kind of interesting to me, especially to hear similarities to Prince and industrial music. Wonder if he ever listened to any besides NIN back in the early 90's...

Not necessarily. Candy could have been working on the track prior to the release of her CD in 1997. So, Prince could have heard snippets of her track, was inspired by it and wrote "Jam of the Year." Prince writes songs years in advance of them showing up on a CD sometimes so Candy definitely could have been writing that track earlier than 1996. It could easily be reversed as well with Candy being inspired by Prince...we'll never know!

Also don't forget what happens when you hit 88 MPH & are charged by a bolt of lightning, or step into a quantum leap accelerator. Then, it's anyone's guess.
