Prince's 40 Biggest Billboard Hits

Jordan Strauss/WireImage for NPG Records 2011

Prince

Celebrations are in order for pop/R&B legend Prince, as the great Purple One turns 54 today (June 7).

The man born Prince Rogers Nelson is an icon on Billboard's Hot 100 songs chart, where he's racked up an impressive array of hits, including five No. 1s. They range from his unforgettable chart-toppers ("Let's Go Crazy," "Kiss") to funk workouts ("Hot Thing," "Controversy") to gorgeous love songs ("The Most Beautiful Girl in the World," "Take Me With U").

To mark the occasion, Billboard recapped Prince's 40 top Hot 100 hits. The list is led by his No. 1 smash from the "Purple Rain" soundtrack, "Let's Go Crazy."

Here are Prince's 40 biggest Billboard Hot 100 hits:

Rank, Title, Hot 100 Peak Year, Position (Weeks Spent at No. 1)

Sweet!

I'd love to see a similar list incorporating chart info of songs he gave to associated artists.

Is this based on sales all the way through (the list are based on radio airplay these years, right?)

- I am surprised Call My Name is there at 38,

and no "Musicology", the title song...

Musicology, iirc: the cd single was selling ok,

I just never knew CMN sold anything..? eek

The Hot 100 combines radio play and sales, and has since its inception.
