Live album chosen by the fans?? U2 are about to release a new album of live songs chosen by the fans, how awesome would it be if Prince did something similar 9 in his own way of cousre), though I think a companion dvd/br would be required as well. Well U2's not Prince

There was already talk from the Prince camp immediately after Crystal Ball was released that Crystal Ball II was going to be a compilation of songs selected by fans.
But, this was around the same time that dumbass L41A site was asking fans to send in their boots as part of an 'experiement'.

I would HATE a "compilation" of live hits!
Gimmie a whole show, yes! But not snippets of different shows edited together.

It strikes me as nice little marketing tactic for U2. Get the fans to vote and they feel like they have a stake in the album and are more likely to buy it. I don't know that it would work so well for Prince because I think the musical tastes of Prince fans are more diverse and there'd be less of a consensus on the song choice. He'd piss off as many fans as he pleased (although that happens with everything he puts out these days anyway) "Don't hate me cos I'm beautiful"

I'd prefer a seat right on the stage at a concert where the set list, band and dancers were selected by me.
Yeah, yeah, yeah! I know! "Maybe I'm just too demanding... I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

How awesome would that be, your own personal concert? Would be interesting to see if Prince would stick to the set list though... [Edited 6/7/12 5:24am] You know you are in love, when you cannot fall asleep because your reality is finally better than your dreams - Dr Seuss

i've suggested a set list tour .. i think bowie did something similar at one point .. it was an all request tour .. but for prince it could be just a 15 full song set .. each city gets to submit and prince picks one fan setlist for each date on the tour and plays it top to bottom .. the catch is no medleys or fucked up one chord jam versions .. the real full song would have to be required .. no piano medleys .. no sampler medleys .. no sticking one song in the middle of the other .. if he can't stop doing that medley shit there really is no point in the fans choosing anything .. prince should do an elevator tour .. he could build a giant elevator on stage with purple bananas in it and play all his songs in muzak form .. oh wait .. he already did that .. thanks renato

i'm not a big U2 fan, but man i love their marketing strategies. Hope P is paying attention and gives us SOMETHING unexpected and excellent. He's not lacking for material!

When Prince was in charge he gave us Indigo Nights. I literally threw that cd out of the window. I would rather a live cd chosen by the fans UNLESS it is a full tour show.

I love how one one hand prince rails against boots then asks his fans what unreleased material they'd like released. The irony reaks of get wild perfume.. [Edited 6/7/12 13:05pm]

i always think it's rather 'meh' when bands let fans decide on songs to play in concert or songs to put on albums.
if the polls go on long enough, people will mention every damn song in your catalogue so then the band/artist can still pick whatever the hell song they want and say" but the fans chose these".
unless you have an actual live poll with percentages on your site that cuts off at a set time, locking in 10, 15 or however many songs, these whole 'fans decide' tactics are a marketing strategy, at best.

but prince didn't let people just name any old bootleg that they had heard on tapes or however, he gave them a choice of 30 or so songs that were on computers at paisley park, which they'd be able to listen to and then select like 10 or something.
you couldn't just go in and write "gimme all my dreams, witness and moonbeam levels man"

didn't bon jovi let the fans pick slippery when wet .. that was a huge record .. stupid but huge .. i don't think it would hurt prince to give fans a preview of 30 songs and let us widdle it down to one classic record .. of course with prince the chances are very high that all 30 songs will be clunkers .. oh well

As long it has Days of Wild as the closing track and the following as tracks, I don't care what other crap he wants to shove on it
Purple Rain 1999 Dance Electric Adore Housequake Mountains Gett Off The Beautiful Ones Controversy Dance 4 Me Coloniozed Mind Black Sweat ENDORPHINMACHINE
Oh I guess that would take up most of the album Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

considering his live concert is prince chance to reinvent the sound of his original sons ... because he does so often for the worse but none the less ... if prince can't find a band that can recreate his recorded sound .. which apparently he can't .. perhaps it's time to try to work with what prince has to showcase his music in a better light
so considering all this and more .. perhaps a live album by prince could revitalize his post success career .. his band seems to want to turn everything into stale rnb bar band with a heavy dose of lite jazz and gospel backing vocals .. laced with a good guitar solo here and there and occasionally funky groove
so he's got to take advantage of that .. like rainbow children, the song, would be much more of a hit without those stupid darthvader lyrics .. but i bet that would be good if he fixed that for a live record .. dance for me could also sound good with this band .. 'here' is another great song prince could do that could be more showcased on a simple 10 song live record .. i always hated the drum loop for black sweat .. sounds like shit run thru an mp3 player at its lowest bitrate .. that could be a great live funk jam that could actually be improved upon with a live unit .. altho the versions i have heard sound like hes trying to recreate album sound .. i wish he did that with kiss but apparantly that is impossible .. i could here "high" done in the vein of "eye no" .. get some horns on it
I could here a big gospel quire on a funked out version of rave unto the joy fantastic too .. a nice acoustic version of pearls before the swine and reflection and close with a 10 minute version of screams of passion with a crazy guitar solo thrown in ..
I think his current band could handle it and sound good and it would improve upon the recorded versions of his recent work
and of course in my dream world he would do a live record with the revolution of mostly b-sides and 12 inch versions .. he could aways just release that crazy good revolution rehearsal that got upgraded a few years ago .. but a revolution reunion would be cool
could be like
