Last year, another cover band, 3121, performed at Hiro's in the meatpacking district.

I haven't heard of anything going on this year.

I used to listen to all his albums in order, but that became tedious (and anticlimactic) around the time of Diamonds and Pearls.

This year, I'm gonna be far too excited about going to the midnight premiere of Prometheus to think about Prince at all.

So far, I've been living and haven't been aware of it. But at this time I normally start counting the days to my birthday and in recent year, lamenting at how much closer, ugly big numbers are coming, convincing myself that it only happens to other people and not me. Maybe this year I'll write a sonnet....for Prince. Do something creative after the hype of the week has subsided and I'm feeling creative.

I usually don't even think about it being the 7th June, wake-up, walk the dogs, have breakfast, then at some point (like today) I log on and see this site, or twitter, or fb and realise it's Prince's birthday. I then say to the missus "Prince is ... today" (54).

Then I reminisce and go all retrospective for about 5 minutes. Think about his age and how I used to think he would be young forever, then i think about how he looks now (still pretty good) and how much he still performs and records (still a lot!). I used to wonder if he would announce something or release something on this day but stopped thinking that a few years ago now.

Then I start to feel old. get in the car and go to work and pretty much forget all about it.

This morning radio dj Giel Belen was so kind to play Prince song because it's his birthday.

So I was very happy to at least have heard 'most beautiful girl in the world' today.
