Prince to me is the greatest artist of all time because of his ability to do SO MANY things at such a high standard.
However, when it comes to individual talents, my answer will always be that is he ONE of the best as it would be very difficult for him to be better at one thing compared to a legend in that field who has spent their whole career simply focusing on that one thing. So he is one of the best guitarists and one of the best falsetto singers.
When it comes to falsetto vocals his competition would be people like:
Philip Bailey Wayne Cooper Barry Gibb Curtis Mayfield Smokey Robinson Charlie Singleton Michael Jackson El Debarge

He definitely has one of the most famous falsettos. To the point where, the ignorant assume his voice is naturally high.
My amazment at Prince's falsetto is how he is able to slide into it so naturally at his live shows. "New Power slide...." |

Coming from the MJ camp side of things, a lot of people insist that Michael had the best falsetto out there. I do think it's impressive but....in my personal opinon, I MUCH prefer Prince's. I think he stretches it more, does more things with it. Michael's is a liiiiittle too light for me (that said I do enjoy it's use on tracks like Your Ways from Triumph).

Prince is not one of the best falsetto singers. But he is one of the best at writing and arranging for falsetto. Equally importan, his falsetto has a touch of grit that makes Prince stand out next to falsettos with crystal clear voices. | |

I completely agree with the bolded part.
I'd change that list up, though. Go to youtube and watch the Willing And Able Video version.....has to be an unbeatable falsetto.

I think you take his vocals on "kiss" and put them up against any other "all time great" falsetto performances and it holds up as being one of the best falsetto performances/recordings of all time. "New Power slide...." |
