I was just watching the Uptown promo clip and my mind got all hypothetical...

If Prince's career (child story etc remains the same, for what it's worth) occurred as it did but only up to 1982 and the release of '1999', and then he faded into obscurity as some edgy funk dude from the late 70s/early 80s and then did nothing really until like Rave, then faded away again.

How into Prince would you be? Would you stand by what I am assuming is a mutual agreeance of him being somewhat a 'genius' in the art of songwriting? Etc etc/whatever else you think.

Also, once you've done that - what about if it only went to Controversy?...

indeed. but still, would be pretty fascinating.

imagine it, still a whole bunch of interesting outtakes and the Second Coming etc all still happened, had some side projects, Little Red Corvette still has one of the greatest solos of all time in it...but then nothing.
