NYC is sought after? I could barely give a copy away on a recent ebay listing, and it was mint.

I have a few tapes, never even been played. I have a few of those NPG samplers in the black covers, they were given away at Gold Experience gigs back in the day, the Holy River promo, The War all that lot, some singles.

Tapes were shit really when you think about it.

a component double cassette player to be exact (not a tiny hand held) to play the 400 or so tapes Ive had over 3 decades..until I finally get to transferring them to cd or digital

i was cleaning and i found another War tape still sealed... funny thing was it was still in the evenolope they sent it in.. so now i have 2 or sealed and an open copy of that.. wish they would sent the war on cd

at the 1st celey they were selling the War cassettes for $1

I collected the cassette singles and maxi singles and have a few cassette promo's etc. I'm still looking for "Sounds 'O' the times" UK promo cassette. I have a sealed black album cassette issued in Korea with Korean writing on the front sticker. Also have the Australian cassette issued for 1999. It has the same tracks as the single LP release and has a different cover to the other releases in US and Europe etc. Kinda cool, but I don't think they will ever be worth much simply because of the crap sound quality and the fact that your player can "chew" them at any moment. I never play mine.

Tapes are still used for underground music. They could just as well all switch to other formats and net releases, but tapes are thought to be more fun. Some limited releases go for crazy amounts of money.

I saw Emancipation on tape once too. I was really surprised that it was released that way too.

I love my cassettes especially the american slip card singles Like Damn U

I started collecting boots on cassette with the floresant card 3 for a tenner in Camden Market

I don't think they are going to be worth much unless it's the Dolphin cassette single or the Exodus sampler with Get Wild version 1 and the extended Free The Music. Either that or the Versace Experience cassettes given away at the 95 Versace show

Other than those I think they are all under 20 most under a fiver

i threw about 70 prince cassetes away a few years back...i felt incredibly sad!

box of chocolates,all my other bootlegs etc......

and then looked at my ipod and thought..yeah your cleverer but dont have half as much personality.......................... as prince's sad little tdk face peered out from the bin

My 12 year old car only has a tape player. I never got around to getting a CD player, let alone an MP3 palyer for it. So my Prince tapes are still used on a regular basis. I have all the Prince albums, a bunch of related artists and of course loads of mix tapes recorded on my twin deck back in the 80's.

In fact the day 'Planet Earth' was released I had to drive across the country. So I got up early, got the first copy of the CD in the shop, went home and copied it to tape so that I could listen to it in the car. Of course I couldn't find a blank tape for love nor money in 2007, so I had to copy over an old Technotronic tape.

As long as my car is still runnin tape will never die!!!!!

I buy cassettes all the time, but just because they're so cheap. I usually convert them to digital and never touch the tapes again, unless I'm in a really old car, or my MP3 player is broke.

I don't go out of my way to search for them, but if I come across one I haven't got and it's less than $10 I'll normally pick it up. There's no way I'd ever pay more than that for a cassette. I probably have about 30 or so Prince cassettes total.

I still use them in my car. I'm not a fan of the sound ipods make and cd's continue

to get scratched in my car. So I play tapes instead.

I still have a lot of blank tapes laying around so I make my own mixes for around town.

That, and Goodwill many has them for 49cents.

By the way, I just found a near-mint VHS copy of "Billboards", the Joffrey Ballet performance.

I saw it years ago live and never bought the tape - so I jumped at the chance when I saw it ...and VHS tapes are also 49 cents. You can't beat that. Woo hoo !!

How do you convert them to digital/mp3s? I know you can convert vinyl to digital, but didn't

know you could do it with tapes.

There's a few different ways to do it, but I'm bad at explaining things, so just google 'cassette to mp3'. The easiest way to do it would be to buy a USB Cassette Player. You just plug it in to your computer, install some program that comes with it, put a cassette in the player, and it records onto your computer as it's playing.

the sound on these cassettes are usually not so great,

so why convert these cassettes to MP3??

But of course it can easily be done with Audacity..

(In case you have a tape recorder)..

What an odd tracklist. They say it has 2 extra tracks, but "How Come U Don't Call Me" is the only non-LP track, and they removed "Automatic," "All The Critics Love U," "International Lover"??

I am addicted to cassette tapes! I've always has been! They have been a passion of mine since I was young. I record them still today, to use for mix tapes, and such.

Can you tell from my wall? Hahaha

Finding a Prince record on cassette would make me thrill me in several different ways!

I only have a 'Copy' of the Black Album, SOTT, and Parade on cassette. I would love to have at least four more. I want 'Come' on cassette and a few more rare ones to find.

I record my own messages and mixes on cassette as you can see from my wall, but having more Prince records would be beyond cool.

But as for collecting, I'll stick to vinyl and CD's

Cassettes are more personal for my own use as I talk and record data. PLUS the sound is not as crisp as it would be in any other format.

Why? When I can collect records.

Thanks for all the info !! I have a quite a few tapes that sound better than my mp3's. I've also found that a VCR recording of his live sets sound far better than my DVD recordings of the same performance. The video is not as good, but I don't care about video as much as I do about audio. I have VHS copy of Fury from SNL that blows away the dvd. thanx again !

i almost exclusively listen to cassettes .. love em .. if i buy a cd i will make a tape then sell the cd .. i love vinyl but it tends to skip and be scratchy .. even if its a new record, the record stores don't take good care of them anymore ... i like to download live shows and make a tape without the bad songs .. i also like to tape shows myself on cassette ..

even tho lossless is far superior .. mp3 is definately not .. in fact if you convert anything to mp3 you will regret it as tho you just flushed your entire collection down the toilet .. its far better to remain lossless cd or vinyl and cassettes are pretty good better than mp3 for sure

cds tend to scratch and be unlistenable after .. a tape you can usually fix .. even if it gets eaten by your tape deck you never bother to clean or demagnetize .. cds cant usually be fixed once they are scratched ..

most music was recorded on tapes in the first place, then converted to digital, now adays its recorded digitally and you can here its not as warm and full sounding
