The "Cloud" in Rolling Stone 20 Iconic Guitars

Prince's "Cloud" is one of the 20 Iconic Guitars in this article:

Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

Who else thinks the Hohner is more deserving? I mean, The Cloud is Prince, but the Hohner IS Prince.

Yeah, I get why they would choose this guitar..being in the movie and all, and it's a odd shape....but his Hohner is more inconic for true Prince fans. They probably didn't select it, because it looks like a Fender Tele, but it's so different.

They did have Keith Richards' Tele (he only used 5 strings on it instead of 6) and Bruce Springsteen's customized Fender Esquire (which is an earlier version of the Tele) on the list, too.

Purple Rain in the National Recording Registry and this. Thanks for sharing! It's nice to see Prince being appreciated outside of the Org.

Have to agree with you all, though. I get why the Cloud made it on the list, but the Hohner all the way. I'll choose to be happy about Prince being included on the list, but I can't shake the nagging sensation that this choice undercuts his status as a guitarist, like, that aesthetics are more the reason why he's on the list than his actual playing. Am I being too sensitive? Wouldn't want to get all fammy on this thread. lol

Whatever. I'm thankful that the universe is showing Prince some love today!

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think this actually adds to Prince's status as a guitarist, since he's mentioned along with other greats in the article, and RS has Prince (not just his guitar) listed at #33 in their 100 Greatest Guitarists:

^Thanks for the link! There's Prince with the Hohner. smile

You're right that it adds to Prince's status as a guitarist. On second thought, I think what irks me is not so much that the Cloud was picked over the Hohner, but that compared to the descriptions of the other guitars, the description of the Cloud feels superficial--it doesn't mention the different versions or the other guitars Prince is known for/is actually playing. All it says is that the Cloud is "voluptuously curvy" and it was made famous by Purple Rain. That was 1984. It's 2012!

I'm guessing they picked the "Cloud" because that's one of his most iconic guitars... just an assumption but it is Rolling Stone. lol

V10LETBLUES

They picked the right guitar. That's an awesome guitar. And was in both Purple Rain and the SOTT concert film. The other guitar is fine, nothing wrong with it, but The Cloud is THE prince guitar in my book.
