Never understood this look

The clothing Prince wore during the Purple Rain was modeled after the Regency Period (1780 - 1830) or even earlier. the Baroque and Rococo Period: 1600 – 1700

he started using this look from Controversy (1999 PR ATWIAD Parade SOTT Lovesexy into the 0+>/Come era

the look also borrowed from the look of Pirates and Buccaneers gypsies and hippies

Poor lonely computer
It's time someone programmed U
It's time U learned love and lust
They both have 4 letters
But they're entirely different words
Poor lonely computer
Poor, poor lonely computer
Do U really know what love is?

Narrow-minded computer
It's time someone programmed U
It's time U learned women are not butterflies
They're computers 2
Just like U Computer Blue
Chauvinistic computer
It's time someone programmed U (Na, na, na, na, na)
U fall in love 2 fast and hate 2 soon
And take 4 granted the feeling's mutual
We're computers 2
Just like U, Computer Blue

The main thing about the difference between Computer Blue and Darlin Nikki was that Prince's body was slick with oil during the first song and then was dry during the second song. hmmm

After all these years, the tub scene is still hot. He looks sexy, but innocent/vulnerable at the same time.

U don't have 2 send me flowers like U used 2 do
U don't have 2 buy me candy, I'll still be your fool
All I ask is 4 a little decency and class
Next time wipe the lipstick off your collar

U don't have 2 take me dancing, our backyard will do
We don't have 2 eat 2 fancy, hamburgers are cool
I don't care if U stay out until the break of dawn
Next time wipe the lipstick off your collar

Can't U understand I want a true love man?
Can't U comprehend I want a lover, not a friend?

I don't care 4 sugar-coated flattery, french kiss will suffice
Blame our sex on your run-down battery, holding U is nice
I know when U're lying baby, there's no need 2 scream
There's no need 2 shout
Next time wipe the lipstick off your collar

If U weren't so tired baby, we'd be on the floor
We'd be makin' love right now, ooh
Next time wipe the lipstick off your collar

How can U just leave me standing
Alone in a world that's so cold?
Maybe I'm just 2 demanding
Maybe I'm just like my father - 2 bold
Maybe U're just like my mother
She's never satisfied

Why do we scream at each other?
This is what it sounds like when doves cry

(81) INT. BASEMENT, PRINCE'S HOUSE -- NIGHT

A naked LIGHT BULB snaps ON. Prince
hesitates a moment, descends the steps,
pauses at the door. The MUSIC wafts
delicately in the night breeze. He
moves down the halllway uncertainly, but
steadily, the MUSIC growing, drawing him
in.

He stops, peers into the antechamber.
His Father is at the piano, his back to
him. He's perched on the broken stool,
playing with all he's got.

Prince moves slowly into the room, his
knees weakening, his anger flowing from
him with every step he takes. Seeing
his Father this way, he doesn't know if
he should laugh or cry. He sits down
silently behind him, listens as his
Father plays.

The SONG ends. His Father sits a
moment, stretching his hands idly along
the keys. Feeling a presence in the
room, he spins around and jumps slightly
at seeing his son. He fixes him with a
threatening look, then shrugs, hunches
over the keys--

(82) INT. CLUB -- NIGHT

The CLUB is THROBBING. Prince is
onstage, stripped to the waist, SWEAT
seeping from his pores in torrents.
He's deep into the pit of "Computer
Blue, " locked into a provocative,
obscene graphic with Wendy. She's on her
knees in front of him, his crotch moving
directly in front of her lips. She's
made up fiercely, looks like Prince
himself. The total effect is unnerving
-- Prince is going down on himself.

mistakemybiology: Until I find that righteous 1.

Where is my love life?
Where can it be?
There must be something wrong with the machinery

Where is my love life?
Tell me, where has it gone?
Somebody please please tell me what the hell is wrong

Till I find the righteous one
Computer blue
Till I find the righteous one
Computer blue

The BEAT is SAVAGE. Prince is in his
own world, living his own private hell.
Suddenly the MUSIC crescendos, then
winds down like a roller coaster
sweeping everyone along. The BEAT
changes radically. He turns his back to
the audience and plays ...

...and we suddenly recognize the MUSIC
as his Father's -- the song he played on
the piano the night before. But it's
Prince's now, stamped with his own
signature. He's bent at the waist, his
back to the audience, alone with his
father's, and his, pain.

(84) INT. CLUB -- NIGHT

Prince is on-stage, deep into the
closing moments of "Computer Blue." He
paces back and forth frantically, still
locked in his own private hell. The
Crowd's attention has wandered, however,
and very few remain on the dance floor,
finding it too much trouble to keep up
with the changing shifts in the music.
Even his band members are edgy, casting
quick looks to each other, wishing to
get on with more compelling audience-
pleasing sounds.

Shall I stay at home and pray?
Shall I try 2 make her happy?
Shall I try 2 make her stay?

'PURPLE RAIN' HAS NON--STOP DRIVE
PRINCE RELEASES A STORM OF ENERGY

CATHARINE RAMBEAU
Free Press Movie Critic

Is "Purple Rain" a movie, or is it a concert on film?

It's both -- but whatever you choose to call it, it's solid entertainment.

Starring Prince, new music's funkiest star, the movie has music as loaded with energy as a sky full of lightning Prince and photography that stays right in the middle of whatever's going on at the moment. The movie itself has non-stop drive.

Set mostly in a nightclub, "Rain" has a plot that disappears like a loon into a Canadian lake, surfacing only when the music dictates. The Kid (Prince) wants to be the hottest musician around; so does his show-biz rival Morris (Morris Day). They vie for the affections of Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero), a luscious singer-dancer.

THE FACT that nearly all the characters in "Purple Rain" use their real names says something; these characters are, in many instances, simply playing themselves. Billy Sparks, the hefty fellow wearing the Detroit Tigers baseball cap, is indeed Billy Sparks, Prince's Detroit-based road manager; Apollonia Kotero really does head the singing group called Apollonia 6.

So it is not surprising that the best of "Purple Rain" is when the dialogue stays short and sweet and the camera closes in to see what's going on with whom. Credit for that goes to Albert Magnoli, the film's 30-year-old writer, director and editor (in his major film debut), and to cinematographer Donald Thorin, whose credits include "An Officer and a Gentleman" and "Against All Odds."

And because Magnoli is willing to suggest ideas and then allow Thorin and the audience to flesh out those ideas, "Rain" acquires a mysterious quality that's more than a little appealing.

PRINCE'S KID, full of sweetness and pent-up rage, commands "Rain." With a voice ranging from ethereal falsetto to blatantly sexual, he radiates an innocent "Who? Me?" grin just as he makes a move that reeks of unadorned sex. When the Kid is on an onstage roll, he's as quick and deadly with his guitar as a salesman hustling Veg-O-Matic's cut/dice/slice capabilities.

The other star of "Rain" -- he almost steals the show -- is Morris Day, lead singer of the Time, as a preening gent short on morals and long on gold brocade. In a "Who's on first" routine, he's at his good-buddy best; but when he stops by the Kid's dressing room just long enough to one-line "How's the family?" after tragedy has struck, he's demonic.

Clarence Williams III, last seen in television's "Mod Squad," is masterful as the Kid's father. With almost no lines, Williams creates a broken, desperately unhappy man out of a character it would be easy to simply despise.

PURPLE RAIN

RATING: 7

She wears a long fur coat of mink
Even in the summertime
Everybody knows from the coy little wink
The girl's got a lot on her mind

She's got big thoughts, big dreams
And a big brown Mercedes sedan
What I think this girl, she really wants
Is 2 be in love with a man

She wants 2 lead the glamorous life
She don't need a man's touch
She wants 2 lead the glamorous life
Without love, it ain't much

She saw him standing in the section marked
"If U have 2 ask, U can't afford it" lingerie
She threw him bread and said "Make me scream"
In the dark, what could he say

Boys with small talk and small minds
Really don't impress me in bed
She said I need a man's man baby, diamonds and furs
Love would only conquer my head

Boys with small talk and small minds
Really don’t impress me in bed
She said, I need a man’s man, baby
Diamonds and furs;
Love would only conquer my head

They made haste in the brown sedan
They drove 2 55 Secret Street
They made love and by the 7th wave
She knew she had a problem

She thought real love is real scary
Money only pays the rent
Love is 4 ever and that's all your life
Love is heaven sent - it's glamorous

Lead the glamorous life
She don't need a man's touch
She's want 2 lead the glamorous life
Without love, it ain't much

Dig if u will the picture - of u and I engaged in a kiss.

The sweat of your body covers me.

Can u picture this, my darling?

An ocean of violets engulf our persons.

A bird screams.

At 1st, I think it's u and u thought it was me.

Oh, if only violets could talk.

Insecurities.

Do u know who u are?

Then it doesn't matter who screamed 1st.

Did it matter who ate of the apple 1st?

The end result was negative.

Can u pass me the pepper?

Why, because u told me salt was bad 4 me.

I thought u liked eggs.

I thought u liked me.

Well, eggs are the only thing I can make besides a baby.

Why do u look at me like that?

What are u thinking?

I know u better than u think I do.

There's this purple suspicion that lurks in the anals of my mind

that u and I are alike in more ways than 6.

Can u relate?

oh yeah?

Then what's the difference between a beautiful man and an ugly man with money?

Nothing - as far as you're concerned.

Do u still want 2 spend the night?

Good.

Come on.

U said u would wash my hair.

Shall we go swimming 1st?

U can't swim.

Wonderful.

"I'll teach u 2 swim, I'll teach u 2 try, I'll teach u 2 laugh, but not 2 cry. I'll teach u 2 trust me when u think I lie, I'll teach u 2 love me until we die."

It's from a song I wrote.

Do u believe that?

U do?

Well, I lied.

I just made it up.

Pretty good, huh.

It's not nice 2 lie.

I think we're on the right track.

Shall I wash u 1st or shall u wash me?

LOL, that's funny

My dad was nervous about it, but he took us

and any time there is a 'sexual' scene to a movie or tv show

he starts fidgetting and his legs start kicking
