omg that is still so painful to watch. I had to turn it off. The dichotomy between classy MJ and egomaniac asshole Prince is just too striking. And I love Prince more and usually isn't that obnoxious obviously but man he just had a bad day.

It comes off as a misunderstanding to me, like he seemed to take it seriously until he got handed the (apparently) left handed guitar, assumed he was getting set up for a fail and decided to take the piss.

wait a minute,

that video of Prince, Michael and James sharing the same stage.....

of couse it exists.

Sorry if there are any newbies who does not know,

and, if I am ruin all the jokes about it. razz

I have a VHS tape somewhere, James is shouting 'Prince, Prince get on the stage' something like that.

Then P is entering the stage, performing with splits and playing one guitar from the JB band,

actually rather cool, until P knocks down a lamp post at the end.

If people wants to believe this never happend,

ok.. eek lol

You're obviously one of those people who were brainwashed to believe it actually happened.

^ lol

why do you keep telling that untrue joke this never happened,

when every fan knows it did happen... wink

Have you ever asked yourself why the picture quality is so bad? It's obviously because it was an early version of photoshop they used.

You mean the only two in his level in the 80's? 'Cause he couldn't neglect Stevie or Ray Charles too, if he was talkin' about rnb. Unless he was saying Prince and MJ were the only two who could make funky music as him. But then again, if Ray isn't exactly funky, Stevie has a lot of funk gems... I'll look for a source of that statement.

[Edited 5/16/12 17:22pm]

Please point to anything Stevie released between 80-85 that screams funk.

Masterblaster is the only thing that comes close....and that just scrapes in at 1980.

I just Called.....nope

Thats what friends are for......nope

Part Time Lover....nope

Ebony and Ivory.....nope.

In fact, i feel SW has commited some of the worst music crimes in the history of music....at the same time as writing/releasing some of the best tunes.

Oh and funny thread.

Stevie's funk gems in the 70's, needless to say. But if James was talking not rnb, but specifically funk music, and not all time rnb, but the 80's, ok, Stevie was not in the same level as Prince and MJ, but neither was James himself. Still we'd have to know what exactly he said, since this Al Sharpton statement about what James told him isn't here (it's not the same one in the video).

I think Stevie didn't realease, that I remember, songs that screamed funk in the 80's, but Do I Do, All I Do, That Girl, Master Blaster (although this is more reggae than funk) and Skeletons were funky.

I agree that I Just Called to Say is as silly, dumb and banal as hell (lyrically and musically), but I don't think he has other songs this bad. And I don't think he was bad in the 80's. Hotter than July is a great album. Do I Do (with Dizzy Gillespie), All I Do, That Girl, Master Blaster, Lately, Ebony and Ivory, Part-time Lover and I Ain't Gonna Stand For It were great songs. And I think Overjoyed even might be in a top ten best ever Stevie songs. It's wonderful.

You cant create such an effect of human presence, as in this video.

Look at the details .... During perfomanses James, MJ and Prince, the public, decorations, clothing, James and guests are absolutely identical. At 1:48, James calls Prince...MJ, and guests are behind him ...You can not create such an ideal mounting ...Sorry, but no one will convince me that this is a photoshop, because it is obvious that it is a reality. History does not change ...

You obviously don't know about the original Photoshop.

It's been well documented, this shit is fake and we all know it.

No, no, no. It's a hologram. You know...like they did with Tupac at Coachella.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

^^ YES!

ATTENTION DOUBTERS!

(By doubters I mean those who sincerely believe that Prince was actually on a stage with James Brown and Michael Jackson, AT THE SAME TIME.)

The video circulating contains a Prince hologram.

A FUCKING PRINCE HOLOGRAM!

Your arguments otherwise are now invalid.

It's really ridiculous how we have to have this argument and teach people that Prince never really was on stage with JB and MJ every single time this thread pops up...

Yes, and the bow followed by throwing down the big lamp above the audience.

Yeah, I'm not a subscriber to that whole 'Stevie sucked after the 70's' mentality just like I'm not a subscriber to the whole 'Prince sucked after the 80's' thing or 'Rush sucked after Moving Pictures' and so on.... people say those things and I believe it... then I listen to the actual records for myself and end up liking them even more than the stuff that I'm "supposed" to like.

Even, I Just Called To Say I Love You...it gets bashed a lot..everywhere. But, it was a massive hit for Stevie and I like it a lot. I think it's a cleverly sweet little love song...but hey, we all like what we like.
