I love the segue. I truly dig the fact that my favorite two songs on the album are right together.

"We Can Funk". Yet another song that Prince should've kept for himself. After you hear the original version, the official album version is never quite as satisfying (except the end where Prince basically takes the song over).

the Synth Funk Version from 86 is tight.after that it's still Good but not quite the same as it's Orginal Sizzle IMHO.

Yep.

I love the "hand-off" to Miko for the solo at the end..

The version of We Can Funk on the Thunderball bootleg CD called "Dream Factory" is the shit!!! It is by far the best take of that song that exists. I wish that the man would go on jamming for another 20 minutes. I always thought that the duet with George Clinton on GB really killed the song; I hate the whispering that they do. It always made me feel like P and George Clinton were singing this song to each other. However, We Can Funk is the bomb when it comes to "funking" with your girlfriend. Dig???

I love these two tracks off of GB, the last 3mins of we can funk are sheer brilliance, the tension building of the synths, Prince's vocals, the lyrical content, backgrounds etc. come togther to make a strong statement before JIR...This is classic Prince.

And what the hell is We Can Funk about anyway?? I'd gladly pee in anybody's cup?!?

Gross!

ill

Its a piss to see if you are funky..cause lots of people can fake the funk, so a piss test needs to be used. A breathalizer just wont do. And some have so much funk that when they test, the cup overflows with pee...and they will pee some more because they are positive for the funk.

I always thought the "P" was a play on words. It could mean to "pee" or the P in P-Funk! They've got so much funk that the cup will overflow...sorta like a piss test! Get it?

The title of this song was 'We Can Fuck' and the original studio recording probably dates back to 1982.

The title We Can Fuck potentially brings new insight into a sexual fetish for peeing. eek

I like both versions but I prefer the 86 version between the two because it sounds more personal and less cluttered with sound. The GB version is kind of sloppy sounding, and the "testing positive" line always seemed awkward, especially with the aids crisis.

I think The ball / Joy in Rep is better. Personally I love how 'We can funk' ends and 'Joy' begins without the interlude. We can funk was ended way too early on the album.

PS, is the end

"We be funkin over here and over there ain't s**t"

or is it (This is how I reckon it sounds)

"We be f**kin over here and over there ain't s**t"

Its really cool either way.

I also love all the lines that were cut out like...
"My princess your so beautiful, my pricess your so smart"
"Do you want to undress me baby, shall I undress you"
...I love all them bits.
