Cindy C is cool. Best track for me is Bob George.

i enjoy it, but overall i think it's one of his weaker efforts. I'm glad it was shelved for LoveSexy. It had a cool mystique about it while it was unreleased... now it's just kinda... blah. But still some good tracks... especially Cindy C. For some reason, I always thought Sexual Suicide should have been on that album, too... it seems to fit, stylistically and content.

Rudy

I consider the Black Album to be his last truly, entirely brilliant record

I guess Lovesexy wasn't bad, but nothing catches the raw rock n roll "fuck you" attitude of the Black Album

It's still the Funk Bible!

2 Nigs United For West Compton is the funkiest instrumental if not the funkiest song EVER, in my not so humble opinion. Fiercest of them all!

Dug it More as a Bootleg.somehow over time it just doesn't leave much of a impression over me.Dig The Instrumentation in parts&still like "Supercalifragisexy" but on a whole it's not worth the Hype IMHO.but Boy did this Album do Wonders for Prince as a Prolific Artist&on the Bootleg Circuits?

Definitely one of my favorites. For me it seems to get better with age. Bob George and Superfunky...have to be the stinkiest funk the little man ever made. Plus, I agree with Rudy...this was the last Prince record that was "cool" imo. After Lovesexy the rawness and mystique were gone forever.

peace

When Prince released The Black Album, he opened the vault door to the darkness and it could never quite be as alluring. It's still an amazingly funky record although I prefer Camille.

This is an awesome album, and it's a shame that he pulled it off the shelves. Bob George is a trip!!!

He should've done a DOUBLE album, with BLACK as one record and WHITE [Lovesexy] as the other.

I agree that there definetly was something mysterious and taboo like when the Black Album was pulled. That added to the attraction and feel to it.

I think it should have remained unreleased for that reason. THe darkness.

But WB released it and although it was now CD quality and all that, but it came out in a different era and it sounded somewhat not as slick as a 95 Gold Experience.

I wonder if The Crystal Ball or Camille released (as special editions or anniversary releases or something) as they were originally intended would it now sound out of place. Maybe. Maybe not. I think it may be how it's marketed and how well it somehow fits with Prince's current musical journey...?

i think it's funny that this may be his funkiest record ever and of all things, it's called "The Black Album". I am sure this has more to do with it's dark nature, but it is still ironic. And still a statement.
