I was drawn 2 it before I heard any of the songs. Then I did hear the title track. Liked it a lot. Then I heard "International Lover." I was baffled by how distinctly different the sounds were between the 2 songs. At that time I had a 3 song minimum 2 buy an album. Then I heard "Little Red Corvette," and I was sold. Well, not exactly. I was 11, and with no disposable income, I spent a couple of months saving pennies 2 go get my disc. I still remember going 2 the bank 2 turn 'em in, then straight away to "Record Bar" 2 pick up my first Prince investment. While I did not imagine at that time what a profound that album, and Prince, would have on my life, I did know that it wasn't "just another album." Now "1999" is emblazoned on my arm 4ever. After hearing A-U-T-OMATIC on the radio and seeing the video for that song --it was on forever!!!
I always loved his style of look and dress. Really different from the heavy rockers. Very stylish, I knew this guy was different . "

I saw the Prince album cover and feel in love. Then I listened to the album and feel deeper in love and I was only 7 years old.

Thanks! The artist did a great job. He outlined only the main part, then did all the inside free hand, looking at that same penny-earned copy of the album. It has a superthin yellow outline, like the cover, which really makes it pop. Most people think it's temporary because the color is so bold. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I've been a follower since the beginning in 78. What attracted me? His talent and unique cutting edge. He dared to be himself not what was hip at the time. I really respect this quality in him.

"The Beautiful Ones"
The opening Linn drum rim shot echo and synth opening gave it depth and hollowness at the same time. Deep song, hollow feeling because it's about unrequited Love and betrayal. And then of course the closing...the screaming--passion, desperation, and oddly in tune. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

2 be truthful ... I love Prince, becaues he was sexy and thought he was a complete freak, I fell in love with the thought he that he could be my international lover I would come up with all kinda fantasies of me and Prince getting along... then later on when I got a little older, I realized what great of a musician he truly is

Keep in mind I was four years old I just thought Prince was the cutest thing, I would always get in trouble with my folks when I was talking about him my mom would say "Stop being a fast ass girl and read a book, you don't know what the hell ur talking about" [This message was edited Fri Feb 28 20:31:13 PST 2003 by DigitalLisa]

I remember it like it was yesterday, I was 10 years old, and one hot summer night I couldn't sleep. So I got out of bed, slipped past my mother's room, grabbed my radio and went to sit on my porch. A local late night dj named MoJo, was spinning the slow jams, and he said was going to play something we'd never heard before. A song by a man named Prince...I was young...I laughed my head off. Then I heard "It's gonna be lonely" for the very first time. That was it! That's all it took. By the end of that song, I was hooked, and I'm pleased to say that this past Wednesday I celebrated the 33rd anniversary of the day I came to be, and I am still hooked on a man so rightfully named Prince. ___________________

Well anyways I saw it several times on TV & heard it on my walkman radio while riding my bike . Not heres the dumb thing , the few times I watched it or saw it , I didnt really look to who the name was !! . Probabley the last few times I saw it back then I think I caught a glimps of his name , & so 4 several yrs I kept asking some freinds who Prince was . Everybody thought I was talking about the fresh prince of balair , even a few music stores didnt know what I was talking about . Enter 1993 & the 7 video . Then my world was 4ever changed . Thank U Prince 4 the best video in the history of man kind ... Well go figure the rest was history & I have been a fam ever since . In my opinion the 7 video was the embodyment of music . Does Prince ever do that song at concerts anymore ?
I think it's great that you caught on to Prince years after Purple Rain -- IMHO, Batdance was a nice jam but not anywhere near his best. 7, however, was a classic cut. I saw him perform it live in Atlanta in 1993 at the Fox Theatre. He rarely, if ever, performs it live now. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
