i had another few listens to this album this week and last and i have to say that it 'aged' well.
on first listen, i totally loved everything up until "walk in sand", which is where it kind of fizzled out.
but now that i've gotten used to the last 4 tracks, and actually like them a fair bit, i can truly say that it's a good album.
especially "future soul song" and "beginning endlessly" are my favorits.
only problem i have with this album is that tracks like "lavaux" and "act of god" sound like they are edits. they would be so much better if they'd go on for two or three more minutes with some great jamming.
for the rest, yeah, it's way better than MPLSound.
his "lotusflower" style albums will always be my favorits, but as far as these nice little 9/10 song discs with some mixed songs on them go, this one ain't a bad one.

I find it very lacklustre, even the best tracks don't really go off anywhere - there's some extended portions screaming to be unedited here surely, surely?

its the album that makes the saddest I think.
Sad for what what could have been if Prince's hadnt totally jettisened his 80s sound and chased new jack, hip hop and other assorted crap for the 20+ years in btween.

i am one of those prince fans that simply wishes he'd release new music every year. it's been a long time since i had that thrill of sneaking up on some sort of prince release (jill jones might've been the last time i actually discovered a new prince project happenstance.)
i like to group prince releases and then try to find patterns; so following the release of 1999 in 1982 prince didn't release another album for a couple of years. i'm hoping that like 1999 was followed up by a magnificent record, whatever prince releases next will surpass 20Ten. there's always hope, right?
he's very prolific in his musical creations and that is really what the topic "20Ten was his best in a while" called to my mind. we'll most likely not see a return to the madness of the early eighties, but my taste of music has been greatly influenced by prince. in short, i usually find most of his projects "the best in a while." La, la, la

Funny...I was bummed that Cause & Effect wasn't on the album. I think it's a bangin song! The guitar work is solid, and I really dig the arrangement. I may be the only person out here that feels this way, but I really couldn't care less. I like it. Occupy Alphabet Street!

Yes it is. The Twinz wrapped him in a sheet. I saw that twice. The song is really beautiful. He did a great job with it.

Sea Of Everything, I've played that one a lot...."in the wilderness" This is one of my faves from 20Ten. I love Sticky Like Glue, great, funky little song, & the talk/rap is sexy. "I got something I wanna say 2 U baby....." Future Soul Song is lovely, and like I posted, beautiful live. Laydown: like it, I liked the promo for the NBA on TNT, done well live. Walk In Sand is nice. It's a pretty song, and I have a soft spot for songs with his falsetto:cloud9: I love the ending when he gets those high notes.

The dry production sounds best through a knackered old stereo.
I always took Walk in Sand to be a subtle Inception reference, given P's obsession with The Matrix, not that the Wachowskis had shit on Nolan, and i wasn't walking up the street with a shot of Teachers in my hand at eight in the morning.
Beautiful Portuguese sand video.

I am amazed that so many people are saying they don't like 20Ten. I just don't get it. I have been an avid listener of Prince's work for 27-28 years and know his music really, really well. 20Ten is his best, most consistent work in years. It may have been laid down quickly but so was Dirty Mind! Not to knock his other recent output, it's just that this is better.
The whole album is really strong. There's not a terrible track on here. But the 5 songs From Future Soul Song through Walk In Sand are just unstoppable, and the trilogy of Sticky Like Glue, Act of God and Lavaux (my favorite song on the album) is the strongest, funkiest back-to-back progression of songs on a Prince album in a very, very long time.
A huge part of why this album is so great (along with the Linn sounds) is that Prince's funk rhythm guitar playing is on point throughout the album. I started really hearing the magic in his rhythm guitar playing again starting around the time of the Le Grand Journal performance a few years back. He had that fire live, and 20Ten really captures that same amazing playing that is reminiscent of the 1999 album.
I am so happy we have this album!

Nothing but the truth there.. It took a couple of days to listen to the album in a whole because I would not stop playing those three songs back to back over again. Sticky Like Glue sent chills down my back. I dont know how many times I listened to it that night. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I liked this album especially for its ballads, Lavaux and Act of God. Not sure why people disliked it I thought it was cool. But Lotus was even better imo sans MPLSound. it's a great album but tails off and never felt complete.. Maybe in time if he comes back to the net we will see the extended version. Maybe not? But I always figure one day P will unleash a ton of music on us again.
Also, Compassion is a great song! What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?
