Cover Versions by Prince I've just found the origional version of paisley park by Richard Swift...excuse my ignorance but I had no idea Prince did covers. Or is this a one off...any others? Bob. G.

Huh? I believe you are mistaken - "Paisley Park" is originally by "Prince and the Revolution." This Swift dude's version is the cover. But yes, Prince has done cover versions of other artists' songs - this isn't one of them, though.
I'm not an obsessive about his '80s work, though, so anyone feel free to correct me. (but I think I'm right).

Prince has done tons of covers, live and on his albums. Most fans don't like that he does covers, though.
List of cover songs on his albums: Betcha By Golly Wow! (Emancipation, Disc 1) I Can't Make U Love Me (Emancipation, Disc 1) La, La, La Means I Love U (Emancipation, Disc 3) One Of Us (Emancipation, Disc 3) Everyday Is A Winding Road (Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic) Purple House (Power of Soul: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix) A Case Of U (One Nite Alone...) Crimson and Clover (Lotusflow3r [Target exclusive track])
I might be missing some..

Laydown from 20ten is basically a cover of Santigold's Creator (oh, but that wasn't credited ... although to be fair, he did at least change the lyrics).
I have to say that it is amazing that over a career so long he's only done a handful of covers on his studio releases.

I'm not sure, but "Soul Sanctuary" might count as a cover... I know somebody else wrote the song (titled "Sanctuary"), then he tweaked it and released his version - but I don't know if his was the first released version. I also don't know if him changing the song (to the point of getting co-writer credit) makes it no longer a cover.

It was written by Sandra St. Victor and T. Hammer.

There are some great Prince covers on live boots. And one could make a decent case that Dreamer and Colonized Mind are covers.
