Rediscovering "Right The Wrong" thanks to the 10,000 boot

There's a lotsa stuff I really dig on "C&D" but "RTW" was one of the few songs I really didn't like. Listening to the new "10,000 Wallpaper" boot, I end-up rediscovering it with a different mastering (and possibly mix?). At first I thought it was a different version but according to Princevault it's totally similar. But hell, I heard it differently and I kinda understand it now: what I felt was a crappy rock song is actually a very efficient reconstruction of a certain folk/western/country-rock kind of song, some typically american kinda shit that we ain't used to hear in Europe but that I can nonetheless identify.

And in the end, even though I still don't like the song that much in itself, I gotta admit that the "parody" is bloody great and that P shows a perfect understanding of a musical genre that he never explored before or since.

And then I like that song... It only took me 16 years lol lol lol

Peace y'all biggrin

Yeah...a remix isn't going to help the lyrics. It's still on my "skip" list. disbelief

What a sad reflection on Prince's premier unofficial fan forum, when we can't even link to music we are talking about. It's like a sad game of charades. And were all to old to get excited about palour games.

confused

Is prince.org still on his hit list?... or are we all just playing rainbow children just for the sake of it.

sorry Databank this just irks me wink

I think linking to a bootleg will always be verboten (as it always has been). You probably just need to get over that.

It took me a few months after getting the CD to like "Right The Wrong", but it's probably the song that I most get into when I listen to the cd. Hated it at first, came to be one of my favorite "odd" Prince songs.

The org owes it's survival on not rocking the Prince boat - a very small price to pay for continuing to be 'the' unofficial site worth visiting.

Like it. He should do more songs like this. I'm still waiting for a country album from him. It'd be awesome.

"Right The Wrong" has always been one of my favorite songs of his... the album it came from is in my top 5 Prince albums, too.

Not. At. All.

It is simply my reaction to the following facts:

1) In every discussion of bootlegs on this site, someone complains that they can't find it or asks for a link.

B) It is clear in the rules and repeated in every thread regarding bootlegs that linking or asking for info is not allowed.

III) Everyone here knows the rules are in place to protect the site from being sued or otherwise taken down by Prince & his copyright cops.

It just seems to me, that thanks to Google and other search engines, there is never a need to break this rule. Anyone who wants to find a bootleg being discussed should be willing to do the minimal work of using a search engine themselves rather than risking the site being shut down due to laziness.

When I first started collecting boots I had to haunt record conventions, mom & pop record stores and mail order to get boots. I usually found stuff 6 months to a year after it began circulating. Today I use a search engine, find it immediately, have it soon after that. When I see that this is too much work for some people who just want the link provided for them, I comment.

Cool? cool

All this and i not once mentioned the word bootleg. I was as you knew referring to the lame ass way we all tow the purple line. cool

Can you imagine the hoo ha if someone god forbid embedded the official video of say Purple Rain in a this Forum. You have to agree it's laughable.

Pbing

I think the C&D tracks on this boot are mixed a little too loud (not the boot's fault obviously), but this version is pretty fun, I agree. My favorite part is the additional "twangy" harmony vocal on the chorus, which as far as I remember is not on the released version. It really drives home that amusing "country" feel.

I've liked this song since the day it was released, which is what separates me from most other Prince fans.

Is it the subject matter, the quality of poetics, or both that you do not like? I love the subject matter, especially Prince's way of connecting Native American and African American suffering of discrimination and genocide while using elaborate if not over the top imagery to assert that humanity's evil will be repaid either in the physical or the metaphysical, which echoes the theme of other songs, such as "You Will Be Moved" and "The Exodus Has Begun."

Yes, it's definitely a different mix. Some things present on the released version are missing. It's the same version that started widely circulating in 2004 ("Outtakes 1993-1994", etc.). Since I never pay attention to Prince's lyrics, I like it. wink Both versions, actually. But I must admit that this "rawer" version is slightly better, somehow.
