Were these Kim Basinger tracks produced by Prince I don't want to believe they were cause they are SO bad but one of the tunes has a male vocal sample that sounds very familiar... What do you guys think? http://www.thestoolpigeon...inger.html "Still Crazy 4 Coco Rock"

No they weren't. The subject has been discussed on here ad nauseum.

it's a good thing that Kim didn't give up her day job These tracks are horrible.Thank God that Prince had nothing to do with this mess.

I think the "rumour" (as if!) the site suggests persists because the tracks date from close to when he was knocking her off, and because the bootleg release was put out by - I want to say Moonraker?... Making it seem he was involved. That's it, there's no other pointers, and IIRC the producer of the stuff is known and completely unrelated to P.
Tom Quickfall obviously couldn't research a two paragraph article if his life depended on it. /pre-coffee bitch mode off.

I don't think that they are gawd awful, but sound pretty much like the standard computer driven R&B and very watered down almost pseudo electronic funk that was typical of late eighties and early nineties R&B, similar in sound--not quality--to Al B. Sure or even a poor attempt at New Jack Swing. Basinger's voice, while not awful either, does not have the tone, depth, richness, or pitch for any type of R&B. She sounds robotic, almost like she is counting to maintain the beat, similar to someone who needs to count to dance. One knows the moves but lacks the soul or natural rhythm to be fluid in one's movement, which causes me to think that if these songs were given to someone who could actually sing they would have been "par for the course" during the time. Of course, I don't know if they were created by Prince, but they are not terrible unless one thinks that the sound of late eighties and early nineties R&B is terrible. They do sound a bit plastic or like knockoffs, like someone trying to imitate the Al B. Sure or New Jack Swing sound, and I think that Basinger's voice makes them sound worse than they are just because her vocal delivery is almost lifeless.

There are a lot of people still convinced that Prince is all over this. I remember reading on here a while back about the album, and someone said something like "Prince must be on the album, his picture is on the cover...."

I remember that thread. The OP was utterly convinced it was Prince. Even when the credits were posted showing who ACTUALLY did it all.
If Prince HAD done it, it would be better than it is. |

even if this was a Prince production,I wouldn't want it in my collection.

I was never a fan of New Jack Swing. It's basically just R&B with all the elements of hip-hop.

I had heard of this, but never bothered to seek it out. She's actually a better singer than certain other proteges I could mention lol He should have produced her "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

Instead, he chose to seduce her.

I remember hearing a rumor that, when the two of them were dating in 1989, they made a deal: if she appeared in his movie Graffiti Bridge,he would produce an album for her The deal apparently fell apart in early 1990,but she still wanted to make an album, which is where these awful songs came from. Her album was supposed to be released on Giant Records in 1991 but it was cancelled.

Prince has nothing to do with these tracks, but didn't he put Kim on his song "Soul Psychedelide"? On one version of that song,Kim is moaning at the beginning, then she mumbles a few words.... "the (??) pump....of sheer delight"...then starts moaning again Does anyone know what that's all about?
