Oh, optimistic, I thought it said deluded!

hehe...it wasn't actually until I was typing my reply that the penny dropped about that one wink

I do actually like that song (for what it is) and it certainly is a very "up" song, but yes, by definition, hopeful and optimistic, perhaps a little deluded (can't we all just love everyone though, Prince included? biggrin)

The Holy River? I add the question mark as I can't remember half the lyrics.

If we believe in love at first sight then the same surely applies regarding hate at first sight? Are we really meant to love each and every one or is it more achievable to just avoid those we dislike and try to be civil?

There are things in nature that abhor each other. Are we not also part of nature? Doesn't mean it's wrong, in fact if the balance is there it means it is perfectly right.

It's probably a discussion for another thread, but I believe you can love everyone on a really deep, fundamental level, even those you dislike, or even those whose principles (or lack thereof) you judge harshly.

I see love and hate as opposites only like truth and illusion; ie. what applies to one doesn't necessarily apply to the other.

I would suggest that humans are the only things in nature that abhor each other. Animals attack for various reasons, but, to my knowledge, there's nothing concrete to suggest that they hate each other - they are usually just defending territory, protecting family...or hungry.

Cats and water. Gingers and sunshine. Women and cold rooms. Little girls and little boys. Simon Cowell and music. Bees and rain. Everything and Slough.

If the above list isn't enough to make you see that nature has things that abhor each other then I don't know what will lol

You had me at Simon Cowell and music (or, more importantly, music and Simon Cowell).

You've proven not only that there are things in nature that abhor each other, but also you've covered off your "hate at first sight" theory too.

Nicely done wink

Now...how do we get those two to just avoid each other and try to be civil? hmmm

"I Will" comes to mind but I think the most uplifting are "Daddy Pop" and "Make Your Momma Happy".

Still Would Stand All Time

A very positive song and an overlooked classic IMO

Prince - Still Would Stand All Time
Its just around the corner, its just around the block
Vthis love that Ive been waiting for, a love solid as rock
A love that reaffirms that we r not alone
A love so bright inside u it glows
And night and day would run together, and all things would b fine
Still would stand all hate around us
Still would stand all time
Still would stand all time
Its not a thousand years away, its not that far my brother
When men will fight injustice instead of one another
Its not that far if we all say yes and only try
Then heaven on earth we will find
(all time)
(still, still would stand all time)
No one man will be ruler, therefore love must rule us all
Dishonesty, anger, fear, jealousy and greed will fall
Love can save us all
Oh, love, love, oh love if u would just please give us a sign
Still would stand all time
Heaven, heaven on earth we all want 2 find (we all want 2 find it)
Still (still) would stand all time
We r not alone people (were not alone)
Tell me can u see the light (can ya see the light)
If u just open your eyes (still would stand all time)
So much u will know, so much u will show
Love, love, its not that far away if we all say yes and give it a try
(got ta give it...a try...yes!) still would stand all time (I say still)
(so many times) so may times, I thought I could not make it
(still would stand all time)
Life was closing in I just knew, I just knew I couldnt take it
Thats when love opened its arms, and if u dont go in child
Still would stand all time (still would stand all time)
U better run to the light, leave your past behind
All things will be fine
Still would stand all time
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

There will be a new city with streets of gold
The young so educated they never grow old
And a, there will be no death 4 with every breath
The voice of many colors sings a song
That's so bold

It doesn't get any more optimistic than that, does it?

Buy a dictionary. That is more idealistic or fanciful than optimstic.

I think the extent to which something can be optimistic is entirely subjective, and thus it's not wrong to suggest that the lyrics to 7 are optimistic, but that some see optimism where others see complete fantasy.

For example, some might say that it is optimistic to think that orgers could be civil and respectful of others' opinions.

Others might say that's idealistic, while others still would suggest it was downright fanciful.

Perhaps it's optimistic to those who believe in fairies then smile

Personally, I think we've come a long way since we began our journey on this planet. Without a timeframe on the creation of such a city...well, I'm not ruling anything out.

You could suggest that world peace is never gonna happen, but if any artist wrote a song about world peace, it would surely qualify as one of their most hopeful and optimistic songs, regardless of how unlikely such an outcome is judged as being.
