Why not go to kickstarter.com and finance it yourself?

Not true according to a friend with 10+ years in the publishing industry. I have, of course, considered self-publishing and financing, but I want this book to have wide distribution, and I just don't see how I could get it into the mass market on my own.

Considering that a gorgeous book like "Prince: Life and Times" by Jason Draper doesn't seem to have sold that well, what makes you think there is a market for your book? This thread has not even a thousand views, and a mere dozen or so reactions.

There is a world of difference between someone (re-)tweeting a link to your website and someone actually spending money on your book.

Seriously: go the route of http://www.kickstarter.co...ok-project ; figure out the actual costs of getting something printed and let the market speak.

I'm familiar with Kickstarter. Also, there's at least two times the amount of stellar work (which is growing daily) held back for the book that is not available for free online. And in my humble estimation, this book encompasses a lot more than Prince alone: art, photography, dolls, craft, pop culture, etc.

Don't mind him, troy. I think he's being condescending of the org itself, not you, and most of his posts are kind of pessimistic on every topic.

So the book will encompass more than Prince - sounds like a great idea! As someone else already mentioned, you are an amazing artist beyond Le Petit Prince, so it'd be great to incorporate your other artistic ideas into this project.

Thanks so much! I meant that the book will be attractive to more than just the loyal Prince fanbase - it's a Le Petit Prince book only.

^^ I would support that. There were a couple of posters on the "Random Pics" thread in PM&M who liked the pic of Le Petit Prince, but possibly not even aware of this thread here.
