Found a sealed vinyl copy of Lovesexy today! While shopping, I found a sealed vinyl copy of Lovesexy for $15 today. I'm torn on whether or not to open it. My other copy is worn from hundreds of listenings since '88. What would you do? Occupy Alphabet Street!

Leave it sealed. It's worth more that way! I love a Man who:

It's not worth a lot anyway, it's not a rare thing, sealed or not.

i think my vinyl copy is still sealed after all these years. i got shitloads of crap i've bought and never opened, watched or listened too

Same here, i'm slowly getting rid of some of it though. I see no point in having 2 or 3 copis of things sitting in boxes never opened, when I could be selling them and using the money for something useful, like buying heroin.

i got too much stuff and i can't be arsed making 200 thousands trips to the post office selling a cd on fleabay for £2.18. if i had the space i'd box the lot up and stuck it in storage. i rarely play discs these days. i just play stuff from the pc or iphone

Ya...I haven't yet opened it, but I think I'm going to. I don't really care about "value", as my Prince lps will never get sold. Occupy Alphabet Street!

Open it. There are some albums that may command a premium if they're sealed but this isn't one of them. Personally, I prefer to buy unsealed albums because the seller can confirm what condition they're in. Just because the album is sealed doesn't mean the record isn't warped. And the custom inner jacket will probably have a hole in it. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Depending on where you buy, sealed doesn't neccesarily mean new. Some places have a machine to reseal old records/CD's. It's like people selling reupholstered mattresses as "new" and people find out later. Holes usually just mean it's a cutout. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I was referring to the hole at the bottom of the inner sleeve caused by the record pressing down on it for two decades. Prince's later albums have custom inner sleeves with artwork, lyrics, etc. and those are likely to be damaged unless the record was stored separately.
I agree with you regarding the danger of resealed records/CDs. Sometimes you can tell it's in the original shrink wrap if there are certain vintage stickers on it. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

The Paisley Park sticker was intact on the back. But....I opened it . And it sounds perfect. Occupy Alphabet Street!

i worked in a record store that had one, as everything sold was sealed to stop people nicking the records/cds. some smaller stores would keep the discs filed behind the desk, or have some sealed copies there, but it meant delays at the tills at busy times, although less shoplifting. so some people selling on fleabay could easily have stuff resealed and no-one would really know
and holes/cutouts were common for prince related stuff as it just wouldn't sell. in the warehouse they "cut out" a slice down the side so they could tell what they were overstocked on and wanted to shift ASAP. i have a few sealed cut out discs, cd and record, still sealed today as i'd often pick up spares of some of the rarer prince related stuff when i came across it cheaply. so i have umpteen copies of the 3 o clock's cd with neon telephone or TC ellis cd and louie louise's CD etc

An unopened album is worthless to me. I can't hear it through the cover and plastic... Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

i usually have stuff downloaded before i buy it so no need to open the wrapping

Yeah, but, if that's the case, WHY buy the record? Sure it's worth more sealed, but, if you plan to sell it, there are much better investments. IF, though, you buy it to enjoy it... then, enjoy it!
I used to collect action figures. I opened them all, played with them as a kid, displayed them on a shelf as an adult. People always say I should have kept them in the package. But, I didn't buy them to resell them, I bought them to enjoy them (either as the toys they are or as collectible geek/nerd decoration).
I guess if you just like knowing you have it sealed but not enjoying it for what it was made for sealed copies are great. I just don't get it, never will...

If Lovesexy has little value unopened, how about my copy of For You which I bought in 1996 was sealed. I decided to open it, and just as well I did, the record looked fresh and the cover jacket had the famous guitar picture and lyrix on the back. Thinking I had ruined an original 1978 album, out pops a purple flier about 10 inches saying "Complete your Prince collection". The flier showed all his albums from For You to 1999, The Sheila E album, All 3 time albums and Vanity 6. It must have been one of the 1984/85 re pressings from the interest caused in his back catalogue during this period. It shattered my illusions quickly, my original 1978 album turned out to be a 1985 re pressing.
I could imagine his anger if the copy of Lovesexy had an ad for Diamonds and Pearls shoved inside it. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Speaking of which.
Did anyone else have any problems with the Lovesexy vinyl? My vinyl copies and my 12" singles all have the same skipping issue. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

My Lovesexy vinyl copy (purchased new) and one I borrowed from a friend (in excellent condition) both skipped on my turntable.
My 12" singles all play fine, though. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

The only unopened things I have are items that I already have a copy of. Why do I buy multiple copies of certain things? Because I find it hard to pass up a bargain, and i'm a lunatic, that's why!
