Wow, seeing these cassettes again makes me feel like... nostalgic... mmh...

I had most of them. I gave them all to a friend who is a fan as soon as I got them in CD format IIRC... Guess she still got 'em, rare (though worthless I guess) Madhouse stuff and such... I don't wish I'd still had them because well, I don't even have the CD's anymore now (welcome to the digital world), but still... So many great memories biggrin

i almost exclusively listen to cassettes .. love em .. if i buy a cd i will make a tape then sell the cd .. i love vinyl but it tends to skip and be scratchy .. even if its a new record, the record stores don't take good care of them anymore ... i like to download live shows and make a tape without the bad songs .. i also like to tape shows myself on cassette ..

even tho lossless is far superior .. mp3 is definately not .. in fact if you convert anything to mp3 you will regret it as tho you just flushed your entire collection down the toilet .. its far better to remain lossless cd or vinyl and cassettes are pretty good better than mp3 for sure

cds tend to scratch and be unlistenable after .. a tape you can usually fix .. even if it gets eaten by your tape deck you never bother to clean or demagnetize .. cds cant usually be fixed once they are scratched ..

most music was recorded on tapes in the first place, then converted to digital, now adays its recorded digitally and you can here its not as warm and full sounding

Last year I started digitizing a bunch of cassettes in my collection. What I found was that even though mine are properly stored (median temperature, rewound, in cases, etc...) 1 in 6 had playback problems.

That's the problem with tape (cassettes AND VHS). Even if you store it properly it can go bad sitting on the shelf. All though vinyl and digital can be damaged, storing them properly and proper care is preventative... Not so with tape. sad

I still own a bunch but am terrified to play them because every time I do, my player(s) eats them.

Fun Fact: Hold the Lovesexy cassette cover up to the light and see if "I leave my name upon my thigh". After you see it, check the credits.

I discovered this quite by accident.

yes, you are right - the single cassettes were very rare, afaik.

I have never seen any cassette singles in Denmark.. by Prince or any other artists.

Back on holiday in France I saw some, a lot in a big shop in Paris, once - in the 90's.

i agree that tapes have their issues .. especially things like tape hiss .. however .. far more of my cds have been ruined, even when stored properly, than my tapes .. often i find it's the tape deck that has issues rather than the tapes ... especially if it is a good quality maxell xl 2 .. crappy tapes are crap tho

That is... interesting.

The only CDs I've had problems with are those that I used to carry with me as a mobile DJ. I would remove discs from their cases and carry them in large CD wallets. Over time I learned that putting them in and out of the sleeves in the wallet scratched some.

Those that lived at home on the shelf all play as good as when I bought them...

If you leave a cassette tape sitting for awhile in storage it helps to fast forward thru the whole tape just to get it re-aligned and wound tight. When it sits it can get too loose and will likely get stuck in your tape player.

The other problem can be your car's inside temperature in the sun, or if your car's cassette player is too hot for a tape, especially if your heat vents are right next to it. I live in MN, so I like to crank my heat up as hot as possible, but my tapes pay the price.

I still have all mine though I have way more CD's and records. Now when I get tapes, I get them free if someone doesn't want them and they get passed over to me. But I've become such a hoarder and have really gone down with the collecting

If the cassette player heads/capstans are kept cleaned, the tapes shouldn't get eaten up. It's also a good idea to get a demagnatizer.

NYC is sought after? I could barely give a copy away on a recent ebay listing, and it was mint.

I have a few tapes, never even been played. I have a few of those NPG samplers in the black covers, they were given away at Gold Experience gigs back in the day, the Holy River promo, The War all that lot, some singles.

Tapes were shit really when you think about it.

Not really, when you think you can stop a cass. at any point and rewind it to catch something (and do it repeatedly) instead of having to play a song all over again on a CD.

No. I don't keep anything I don't use. I feel more free with fewer material things around me. Not even for sentiment. I like to think those things are inside not outside.

I did make a mistake in throwing away all the plastic covers of all my cds though, but storing them all was becoming impossible. But now I can never find the cds I'm looking for even though they're categorised. With P's collection, I kept the plastic fortunately. Still ITunes does give a nice easy overview and search functions.

I remember those days when the tapedeck chewed the tape. I'd stick them together if they broke. But it was always on the favourite track that you kept rewinding. That's why I love my ipod. So much personality, so brainy and functional in one small tiny little gadget!! Couldn't live without it love

Wanna see an 80s kid's face light up like Pavlov's dog? Just play them that rising "booooooooop!" tone that began all cassettes back then! lol

I see some of you guys kept up with cassettes for quite some time! I made the switch to cd for Graffiti Bridge, and never looked back (though I did get The War and the Gett Off cassingle...).

I don't think I've bought a new release as a cassette since.....hmm.... I Hate U, from memory. I still have all of my cassettes, though - pretty much an entire UK discography of released cassettes, including singles, up until that point, plus some promos, imports, etc..

Hmm - my memory's apparently not up to much. Looking at the picture above, I realised I also have at least Emancipation and The Holy River after I Hate You. Possibly more too. Will have to go and look.

Yes really.

Every cd player I have owned has enabled me to stop a disc at any point and "rewind" or "fast forward" to catch something. It's often called a search fuction and can more often than not be found beside the skip buttons. Do that too often with a tape and it causes it to stretch and eventually break.
