prince-17 DAYS.His best "lost" tune? Meaning by lost that altho i think his carer was handled spectacularly well form the hits angle for purple rain....damn he should have released this as an A side
it still fucking kills me
an utter utter stone cold introspective yet big sounding dark and brooding piece of melancholic hypnotic funk

Agreed - killer track - has been on my workout mix for like forever - classic. Although - how would this work with live drums; reckon it would be pretty difficult to pull off live - wasn't overly fond of the acoustic version recently surfaced from Musicology period

That was my favorite as a little kid lol a whore in sheep's clothing

I really cant understand the love for this track...its really an OK song, but a classic??? I can understand why it was just a b-side! ITs not near as good as WDC; PR, Little Red corvette or even lets go crazy.... Well, all live versions i know of that songs (1986,1997) are better that the studioversion...

I consider "She's Always In My Hair" and "Erotic City" to be better B-sides than "17 Days", but it would be third on the list.
There are several unreleased songs that I consider better than it as well.

Those were ALL my favorites as a little kid, not just because I could use the record player to hear them and the little records had a special smell. I have them all still ![]() a whore in sheep's clothing

It's ok but i don't get constant praise for it The melody is repetetive as hell
Doesn't come anywhere close to Erotic City and She's always ... etc [Edited 4/24/12 7:19am]

agreed I prefer She's Always In My Hair & Erotic City over 17Days too, I've had the 12" version of She's Alway In My Hair on repeat for like a week now the feeling U get when U fall in love not with a girl or a boy but with the heavens above

I guess it's all personal taste. I LOVE 17 days but I don't care for Erotic City and She's always in my hair. Erotic City is a great funk tune but the swearing ruins it for me. She's always in my hair is just ok to me. Not bad but not great. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Wasn't it voted Prince's best (or second best?) song on here a couple of years ago?
Labelling it Prince's best is probably too much, but it sure is up there, because he captured a certain emotion and feel perfectly with this song and it is all reflected in the cold synths, his depressed singing voice and the dense, but still minimal sounding MPLS sound mix.

Good way to out it. It worx cuz of the package. Not one huge element stands out...what stands out is how that all worx together to paint a well defined image. The image stands out, not necessarily the song. [Edited 4/24/12 9:41am]

It's a nice little ditty but far from his best "lost" track. I would say "electric Intercourse" or maybe the original "extraloveable"

This song was a nice party song, it had a catchy vibe the lyrics spoke to anyone missing their lover and it was very popular so I don't think it had to be an A side. I don't think it would have fit directly on Purple Rain either which is the era it was written for.
Now if the V6 album was released and it was on there that would have been a hot album

It's a bit dumb to call it a lost track. It was the b side on a multi million selling single and also included on the hits the b side which I'm sure shifted a few units. It is a great song though. As far as greatest lost track that title would belong to All My Dreams or Witness 4 The prosecution.

I agree. Those are two great tracks. All My Dreams sounds a little too dated though.
Witness on the other hand, the rock version, with updated lyrics (he's too old to be singing about school kid love) would fit with today's music perfectly. The guitar riff is just too great to never have received a proper release.

How can it be lost if it was released and widely available? great track, really came alive on the 84 Birthday soundboard.

He did it during one of the LA shows last year & I recall folks wetting their pants.
I like it quite well, mostly know it from the 84 Birthday show. Although I might even like All Day All Night even better.
As for "Prince song almost nobody knows even if it was released" I have to say Family Name is my favorite. That is one of the best things he ever did.

17 Dayz is the Jam!!! Plus it's a bonus 4 me bcuz it's the B-Side 2 My fav song of all time(When Doves Cry) not just from Prince but from any1. 17 Days is no joke from intro 2 the end of this Jam. "Called U Yesterday , U didn't answer your phone"" All I got is 2 cigz and this broken heart of mine". Let the Rain Cum down boo, Prince was spitn hella game on this song. Nice mid tempo. Alot of ppl didnt play that song when it came out(including myself) bcuz most b-sides didnt get love bcuz of tha A-side.
I do loooove this song tho, 17 days and Erotic City are some of the best b-side songs ever 2 cum out. Thinkn about that time frame makes me want 2 get that B-Sides CD from Prince and bump that shizzzznit. 17days should have been an A side jam 4 sure. If would have fit in Purple Rain some how.

i hear this as an antithesis to a "party"song........
a "nice"party song..are we talking about the same track???
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
did you see how i used the word lost in inverted commas...........
a lost song would be wally
a "lost" song pertains perhaps to a popular song that got overlooked somehow...and as a b side sometimes songs get overlooked by the wider audience
do i need to go on??

I agree, never thought much of this track and the line about cigarettes gives away the fact that it's really a wendy and lisa song. Not even in the league of true Prince B sides of the era in my mind. Even spotty b-sides like "Hello" were superior.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
you gotta be kidding me, who the hell voted that better than all the brilliant songs he's put out? Good lord, I really doubt my fellow posters sometimes.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
lost tune? | |
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
not one of his better B-sides..it never did it for me. Erotic City and How Come U Dont' Call Me Anymore and Horny Toad, etc are much better. I know of people dig it and could never figure out why
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
how does the 2 cigarettes have anything to do with Wendy & Lisa?
The song was written for Brenda Bennett(A6) to sing, she was a smoker
As far as being dancible this song is it. I remember this one played just as much or more then When Doves Cry, hearing people play it in their cars and parties and picnics
