I don't know if this is a big enough deal to post as a topic but, does anyone know how to fix this?

I bought a CD off of Amazon and put it in my car CD player and it kept saying "Check CD" - I tried to eject it- wouldn't come out (still won't it's stuck in there) and now, randomly the mf'er will play (perfectly well, surprisingly) but won't come out and keeps telling me to "Check CD"- WTF?!!

And yes, I've googled this problem but no good suggestions on how to fix this- Anyone had this happen? What did you do?

My first guess is that you bought a CD with Tony Mosley on it. That would be the problem.

Try making a copy of the cd and use that for the car cd. Thats what I do, just in case some one breaks into my car and if they steal my burned copy of my cd's no big deal I can just make another.

You could try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and see if the cd player will kinda reboot itself.

I had something similar happen last year - a cd loaded into the stereo in the dashboard and it annoyed the 6 disc chager in some way. The disc wouldn't play or eject and then after a few days, all cds stopped playing.

After a few weeks of no cds, I got as far as pricing up a new stereo (Over 900 Euro! - it's integrated into the dash and Honda are robbing ********s) Anyway, the battery went dead soon after. So I took it out to recharge it properly and reinstaled it a few hours later and the cd player came back to life! The dodgy disc still wouldn't play but I got it to eject and other discs play fine now.

However, on the offchance that the CD was '1999 - the New Master', the whole car is now infected so you should consider torching the car and claiming off your insurance.

what cd was it? was it rave, which is an "enhanced" disc with cdrom/pc material? the cd player may not have like it

It was "The Love Symbol" (Is that the name? the one with "I wanna melt with you" and "Sweet Baby")

I bought it off Amazon "Used but in "good condition" and it seemed to have no scratches, seemed to be in good shape. I don't know what happened but I know it was the CD that messed up my player.

Turn the cd player off and when you turn the power back on press eject quickly-that's all I got and yeah it's Probably Tony M whoodoo

that's not an enhanced disc, but it has tony M and a lot of cd players are known not to like anything with tony M on it, so that's probably the problem

That has happened 2 me before (but not with a Prince cd). I think some person tried to "clean" the cd with one of those cleaners and it didn't work.

Have you put the cd in a regular cd rom to see if a program like iTunes or windows media can read it?

Ummm.. No, I originally put this in "General Discusssion" and the moderator moved it. It has nothing to do with Prince, I shouldn't even have mentioned it was a Prince Cd, I just did, but no I wasn't trying to make a Prince post. I genuinely wanted some advice on how to fix this! So shutty.

Actually, this is the best advice. My bf did this last night and it began to work! Although, even though it worked and the CD came out, the new one I put in now won't release so I'll have to mess it with it some more. Thanks

The funny thing is that it's the "pro" CD-players that usually get messed up like that. I have an expensive Harman Kardon CD player from the 90s that gets messed up in a similar way if you insert a CD-R or an enhanced CD into it. Trying to reset it is a pain in the ass. Never had problems like that with the cheaper units or CD-ROM drives.

It's possible that your CD player just arrived at the end of its life arch and the CD you bought had nothing to do with it. You just happened to pop that one in when the player was about to get broken in any case. Apart from there being some sort of residue on the surface of the disc itself, as suggested by one of the posters above, there should be nothing on the Symbol album that differs from a standard CD.

The player might have a hole where you can shove in an unfolded paperclip to operate the eject mechanism.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I'm going to try all these today and see if I can get it worked out!
