Prince Autograph

Why is it so hard to get? I have tried numerous times over the years with no luck.

Recently I asked SHEILA E to help me out and she told me 'He Doesnt Sign'

Anyone have any idea why not? I really would like to at least get my PURPLE RAIN lp autographed ")

I am an 80s Music Junkie !

He has done a few record store signing sessions in the past so there are autographs out there, I think the last one was possibly in the early 90's. I'd need to check. I have no idea how you would go about obtaining his signature now, nor do I care one jot why he does not sign these days.

he's not signed autographs in about 20 years. of the few rare signing sessions he wouldn't normally sign his full name and do things like "P'88"

i have one that's signed "prince" on a photo similar to the cover of a prince book, a graffiti bridge era photo with him wearing a hat, it came from a warners employee, but it's no for sale

* He likes to do things that are out of the ordinary and buck the usual trends (like giving autographs).

* He hates contracts, etc... and presumably anything that requires his signature (like giving autographs...or signing cheques, for that matter).

* He hates people cashing in on his name/image/etc... and he would know that a great deal of things that he signs will eventually (or immediately) end up on eBay.

* He's a little odd.

Take your pick - it's probably a combination of some (or all) of these, or about a dozen more.

Personally I think he should consider doing a trademark 180 on this one and start signing anything and everything he can get his hands on. Then he could release a whole lot of things that are rare enough to be fetching big money on eBay at the moment.

He knows full well that scarcity drives up the price - he could bring it crashing down simply by increasing supply.

Sorry - I realise none of this is very helpful in your quest to get your record signed, but, pending a serious change in his personal policy on the topic, I think you need to let it go for now.

I bought an autographed copy of "Rolling Stone" for $40 on eBay.

Now, the copy autographed was the issue from the Musicology tour, and we all know Prince wasn't autographing anything then. And Prince's autograph would obviously go for far more than $40.

But the autograph is PERFECT. Whoever did it was really talented. I figured it was worth $40 to fool my friends.

The funny thing is, the seller was an A+ rated seller, who'd sold over 1,000 items without a single complaint!

I realize this but P never really signed stuff a lot in the way some other stars like Bowie do. He stops and signs stuff for everyone. Err..well at the NPGMC was a ramble writing about "idols" and autographs way back in the day.

plus...

"I was at the 8/13 MCI Center Musicology show, and during “Telelmarketer’s Blues,” Prince sang a bit about how only Telemarketers and “fams” were on his phone, and mentioned that asking for an autograph was “stupid idol worship.” I know his policy on autographs, but I still thought phrasing it that way was a little bit harsh. That started me to thinking, isn’t all “fan/fam dom” idol worship in some way?"

peace out.

I have a autograph signed by Prince on Paisley park paper (PRN PRODUCTION)

It says Love God Prince 88

Its one of my most cherished things in my life!!! A friend got it for me and Prince actually handed it to him. ( At a paisley park party for Lovesexy)

I'm not surprised if dummies like you are happy to shell out $40 for a magazine knowing the "autograph" on it is fake.

Back in 1990 a fan (on a TV talk show) unveiled his massive autograph collection and spoke about the great lengths he went to seek them.

The host asked him if there was one autograph he seeked and was denied. He said; "The only person that turned me down was Prince".

He went on to say; "I asked him for his autograph...and he asked me 'Do you believe in God?'..I replied yes..and he said 'Then you don't need my autograph' and walked away".

Classic.

Why doesn't he sign anymore? Because he doesn't need to. shrug
