I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man One of Prince's most played Pop songs, but it hardly ever gets talked about here-why? The vid was nice from Sign O The Times Prince and Cat did that one Let's discuss this song and why it never gets mentioned

Is the Dreamfactory version longer or is it just me?

Just blasted this in the car on the way home from work. Love it!

I've always loved it, but maybe because it was a Pop record folks don't care for it

Most played if you count my stereo system. It may have hit the Top 10, but hardly ever heard on the radio in Florida. Thieves In The Temple also suffered from a lack of Southern Airplay. Those two songs both seemed like sure fire Top 5 hits. Had G Bridge been a better album, and better movie, maybe it would've been bigger.

Wow ICNTTPOYM was getting heavy radio play around my way Thieves in the Temple was only on R&B stattions I thought GB was a good album

This is my all time favorite Prince song. I love the long guitar solo in it. I guess it was recorded around 1982, but not released until 1987 in SOTT.

Never knew that-the guitar is killer

Yes the Dream Factory version is slightly longer, about 20 seconds. This song is an absolute masterpiece, after all these years it still sounds fantastic and full of energy!

I love this song..It actually might be one of my most played songs from SOTT.
I've never heard this song played on the radio though ...The only Prince songs I've ever heard on the radio is Kiss, Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, 1999 and Rasberry Beret.

This is one of those jams. I remember playing this on my way home from work during high school, which really wasn't that long ago. The nostalgia is priceless, this is from my first prince album (Ultimate). Absolutely love the song, love the narrative, love the solo, love the video.
Wally, what am I gunna' do??????

I heard this playing in the local Goodwill Store a couple of week's ago. I feel out laughing when a kid asked his mother what was the guy singing about being a girlfriend. Prince's Sarah

I heard the Jordon Knight (NKOTB I think?) version of this song in a shop the other day. It was AWFUL! I had to leave the shop before I went out the the back and smash the stero system.

Yup. My all time favourite too. When the solo starts I just have to turn off the lights and listen in total darkness. Good morning Ladies & Gentlemen,
Boys & Motherfuckin' girls

Because it takes too long to type the name?

See, I always thought that was weird. In effect, Prince is trying to bang a pregnant woman. At least, I assume he was trying to bang her, as all his songs back then were about banging women.
Or maybe he was telling the pregnant girl, "Do not waste your time trying to bang me". It's really not clear.
I sure do love the live verson on "Sign O' The Times", although I could do without the guitar interlude.

Wow! This was 25 years ago? Prince needs to record an updated track. We need to know what kind of life the two kids experienced.

Classic Prince song,
I the "sparse arrangement", great melody and great guitar solo.....
Just brilliant... Prince 4Ever.

I hope the original version from 1982 gets leaked while I'm still on this earth.

I never got into this song, but I do love this picture.

The guitar solo section is sublime.

I love everything about this song. The music, lyrics, vocals, the killer performance on the SOTT video (lip-synced or not), and the guitar solo, which I believe is from original concert footage from the tour, is stellar.

I'm new to Prince music, newer to the Org, and Sign o' the Times was my 1st official album (after getting the Hits 1, 2 & b-sides), and ICNTTPOYM is the reason why I started with that album over the others. ICNTTPOYM instantly had me grinning like a fool, but it took me longer to appreciate the other, more talked about tracks. Now, whenever I think about the album as a whole, I think about those songs first, not ICNTTPOYM... So maybe it's not talked about because it's more accessible? or the other songs require more "work"? I definitely still love it... I'm a sucker for songs with a story... AND handclaps!
