I agree, never thought much of this track and the line about cigarettes gives away the fact that it's really a wendy and lisa song. Not even in the league of true Prince B sides of the era in my mind. Even spotty b-sides like "Hello" were superior.
how does the 2 cigarettes have anything to do with Wendy & Lisa?
The song was written for Brenda Bennett(A6) to sing, she was a smoker
As far as being dancible this song is it. I remember this one played just as much or more then When Doves Cry, hearing people play it in their cars and parties and picnics
didn't wendy and lisa smoke? if not, then i stand corrected, i've always thought it was an odd line for a guy who never smoked and reportedly was in great shape at the time, rarely drinking and nothing but rumours of drugs. |

rumors. You mean interviews from people who were there for it?? lol.
Back to the subject...love the track. The density of it is great, killer beat. |

I like the song, but I think calling it a "master piece" is a stretch. Prince's Sarah |

no i mean rumours from people like you and the org members, never heard of anyone saying P messed with coke in the Revolution era by anyone. if they exist, point them out to me. Of course all of us know of the black album debacle but that's later. |

How can it be lost if it was released and widely available? great track, really came alive on the 84 Birthday soundboard.
did you see how i used the word lost in inverted commas..... a lost song would be wally a "lost" song pertains perhaps to a popular song that got overlooked somehow...and as a b side sometimes songs get overlooked by the wider audience do i need to go on?? jesus It was never lost....its been around and will be around. People tend to never shut-up about it on the org. It seems quite legendary vs. 'lost'. |

Lisa smoke, at the time I don't believe Wendy did.
But that still had nothing to do with them. The song was written for/with Brenda Bennett who smoked. Her vocals are still on the track.

ya your'e right but missing the point, in those days he was pretty anti-drug/smoke/drink in his public statements and his songs, so it is a little strange. Anyways, I never considered it "great" or "lost" just mediocre. |

She had 2 ciggs...and a broken heart...not a whole carton of em or a barrel of vino, or a kilo of coke. Substance use in EXCESS is what prince is not a fan of and chastises publicly. Prince is an adult in the party scene and knows people have fun. |

ok ok man, tie me up and lube me down ride me around the room with a whip for awhile, sorry. I am just saying it struck me as strange and still does, I'd still be suprised if Prince wrote those two lines instead of the others. |

not really sure how a song that is included on his biggest selling single qualifies as a "lost" tune but yes, it's one of his best. "does my cock look fat in these jeans?" |

This song was a nice party song, it had a catchy vibe the lyrics spoke to anyone missing their lover and it was very popular so I don't think it had to be an A side. I don't think it would have fit directly on Purple Rain either which is the era it was written for.
Now if the V6 album was released and it was on there that would have been a hot album
i hear this as an antithesis to a "party"song........
a "nice"party song..are we talking about the same track???
It is, if you're playing the B-Day version Brown Mark was showing out on the bass. |

"Splash" is something that I'd call a "lost" tune myself. It's certainly a shame that it got released only in that manner and wasn't even featured on CB.

What's funny to me is "17 Days" was an Apollonia 6 tune until he realized they would only be around for the movie, only to make it his own... B-SIDE? C'mon |

I thought it was originally planned for Vanity 6? (I do buy that maybe he then considered it for Apollonia 6, maybe?) |

Those kinda go hand in hand because it was the same act but he just had to replace Vanity when she dropped out during the making of the movie. |
