Po§itivity I was listening to LoveSexy the other day and when Positivity came on I had to turn it up. I think it's one of the best songs on the album. What he is doing with that synth bass line (just holding the rhytm) is so so so dope. I never understood the hatred that this song got here. Oh well, it's just like how I hate The Holy River. Am I the only one who views this song as being one of the strongest on LoveSexy?

i always thought it was one of the stronger tracks on the album. Prince liked it enough to have Mavis Staples cover it pretty faithful to his version.

The beat, the groove.. It's hypnotic. Love the stripped back live versions too. "all the boys...& all the girls..."

One of my favorites (see my signature ). The whole Lovesexy album is great. I especially like the sentiments in Eye No, Lovesexy, Anna Stesia, and Positivity. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Yes I love the song! I think on my list I ranked it number four or five. Very uplifting. I gain a new and refreshing appreciation of the album every time I listen to it.

Man Positivity is probably the most underrated song in the canon. Ive been reading in oither threads that folks don 't like it, but this shit is so dirty mind raw funk.
That "call People magazine, Rolling Stone, call you next of kin, cause your ass is gone gotta get yourself a gun with the pricetage still on the side"
chant is rough as hell
and that guitar running throughout it is evil
you can hear him right at the mic on this cut
Its dark and sludgy..like Anna Stesia inside out..Im glad this cut doesnt get shine as it seems like a "sleeper" suprise making it more special...Wasted Kisses reminds me of the mood of Positivity
"Climb in my fur." | |

One of his best.
Some people just want Prince to do straightforward pop music and can't handle experimentation in his music. They tend to be the same people who have no qualms about expressing their dislike for something publicly. If some people think "Positivity" is "shit" the chances for them thinking the same about tracks like "All The Critics Love U In New York", "Tamborine", "New Position" or "Sexual Suicide" are pretty damn high.
What's wrong with "The Holy River"?

I just can't get into the holy river. I find it to be extremely sappy. It has a positive message for sure, but not enough umph for me. I also think it was a terrible choice for a single (needless to say).

Yeah, wow, like pretty much everyone has said! That is like my favorite part of the song. Here we have Prince going hipster on this depressingly slow-paced psychedelia trip ironically expressing "positivity" in the lyrics then about half or three-quarters thru the song he throws this deep-throated chant that TOTALLY caught me offguard upon first listen. I feel like it is the climax of the song. And I love the subtlety of the guitar and drum work; there is sooo much atmosphere in the song, so much sincerety of Prince's soul. This is why I have come to appreciate the song so much right here.

I love the line: "do u dream straight up? Or do u dream in double U's?" But I've also always been curious about what it means.. What do y'all reckon?

THIS line bothered me the most too at one time. I always knew it was clever, but after some searching HERE...'Jestyr' explained it BEST..
lol..
It might be a very medical defintion, but it works for ME! What about you? lol It's Button Therapy, Baby!

Hmm so that's what that line means. Makes sense considering how Lovesexy came about

Yeah I noticed that line a few days ago and it caught my ear for sure! Thanks for the insight EyeJester7!
