that's one way to look at it, but like anything, it takes mistakes to get to success, the old Edison analogy of how he had to try a thousand times before he found a filament for the light that wouldn't burn right up is true. As a pianist I have to labor hundreds and hundreds of times before I can get a lick anywhere near something listenable. It's either make mistakes or don't try really.
Exactly. Things viewed by others as mistakes are often a lesson and no one can really judge because you aren't that person. But, it seems with a lot of arm chair critics they think they know and understand all the factors going on in someone's head and life. Which is bizarre considering often the person creating something can't even understand the process while they are in it.
Some things as far as 'character' mistakes and some other kinds are, pretty much left to that individual person I don't care too much about that. Until it affects other people.
When he got on stage with James Brown and MJ a lot of people said he made some mistakes etc etc I loved the whole show, I felt he needed to put himself out there and take that risk. Hopefully he learned something. BUT maybe that event (which I believe he felt he messed up) could have been the fork in the road, that cause Prince to refuse to work with Miles Davis and never want to meet Clare Fischer or do the We R the World event. I don't know but maybe
I'm not against mistakes at all. That's something different than say, not making sure someone get's paid for their work. That's not a mistake. Setting up a website and leaving people unfulfilled and not getting what they paid for. That's not a mistake. That has nothing to do with trail and error. Because you end up in court being sued.
You are talking about the creating process. I'm not criticizing his music or the process, even though I can have an opinion. |

couldn't agree withyou more as far as the James Brown concert, some people believe it lit a fire under him to become the dancer he would be two short years later. If that is true, it was well worth making an idiot out of himself. For all Michaels and Prince's faults they were each others best inspirations I believe. Prince started out as a guy who could only sing falsetto and could do some new wave, Mick Jagger moves and how he went from that to what he became is nothing short of amazing. Not paying people, of course that's wrong and immoral and character flaws are things most people really don't change much on. I've never liked what I've heard about how he treats other musicians, what his reasons are for it all I don't know but lots of things are just plain inexcusable. It's not to say Prince can do no wrong, I just think what you or I call a mistake will be an opinion and nothing more. Like I said, the only sure way to not make a mistake is not to try. How the man feels about all of it we'll probably never know. |
