Is Prince ashamed of 94 East?

I have a feeling P is a bit ashamed of that period. He didn't write the songs, he didn't sing on the lead vocals, he pretty much was just working for Pepe Willie. Willie put out the music without P's permission, which, I'd assume was hell no. lol.

I don't blame Willie, he had to make a buck some way. lol.

Not all the songs are great, but he should do some of those tunes. No shame with good music, no matter who writes it. Break bread with Pepe, is what I say.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

I am ashamed,

crap album.

I think I have the album, somewhere on vinyl....

not good.

The only good thing is the purple LP cover artwork with red doves.

This - and Prince's name on the cover was what made me buy this..

the music, cringe worthy, the only song with minimal appeal is Just Another Sucker.

Tastes: we can't agree here.. haha.

But cool Pepe W. made some money, I don't blame him.

He's not "ashamed" of it, it's just something that has nothing to do with him as a solo artist, he was essentially a session player with someone else's band on a handful of songs that sold modestly at the time, and have since been exploited over and over again simply by the virtue of Prince's own success.

If he wanted to "break any bread" with Pepe, I'd much rather him revisit "Do Yourself A Favor". Although he may not want to since Jesse had released a version. Prince's demo of it is brilliant.

No reason for him to be ashamed.

Don't forget, I am talking about the two disk set.

Lots of what made Prince important you can hear in that music.

To each his own eek I love the 94 East material. It's under the radar but there's SO many gems that get looked over ~ If You See Me, Better Than You Think (Prince's guitar work is just drool), Games, If We Don't, Just Another Sucker fallinluv

I don't know what he thinks of it musically speaking and I don't think he ever said it.

The reason he got pissed by it (something he did say a few years back) was obviously Pépé Willie rereleasing it again and again under various titles, going as far as to make it a "Prince" album at some point (as opposed to "94 East" or "94 East featuring Prince").

And anyway, it's music featuring Prince that Prince has no control on, and we all know he doesn't like this (most likely the main reason why he quit giving songs to other artists in 1994).

I really like some of the music on there and I think Just another sucker is one of the lesser songs on it xD

I don't think anybody can say how Prince feels about it personally.

What can be said is that he seems uninterested in supporting it.

But hell, Prince is uninterested in supporting his own releases after after a

month or so after they drop. lol

94 East was a cool project when it first appeared in 1986.However,it has been reissued,re-packaged and re-sold too many times.

Pépé has stated publically that he didn't authorize all the subsequent releases and that he told Prince that same thing. Prince asked him to stop and he claims he did after that initial release. I'm not terribly sure how the "other" people who are releasing it are able if Pépé holds the copyright, (which he should unless he sold it, but that's what Pépé says. True or false, I have no idea. Prince is only a session player so he has no claim to the recordings.

Very. Just make one album and sell it. It's not like any more money is going to made from re-selling a product.
