Has Prince ever covered a Beatles song?

Not sure if he has or not, but I'm just re-discovering some of these great classics.

I'd love to hear Prince cover Dear Prudence with an awesome guitar solo. I think he'd be perfect covering this tune.

The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

He's covered them live but it would be cool to hear a studio session. I'd like to hear him doing Within You Without You...

How are we all forgetting "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"? That was one of his most epic television moments ever.

EDIT: Oops, sorry Unique, just saw it mentioned in your post.

Please dont encourage Prince to play more covers. I am so sick of hearing him play everyone else's music but his own. He has 2000+ songs and the last two times I have seen him half of the show was covers. Its AWEFUL to me!! I want to hear Prince do Prince, not The Beatles, Stones, Larry Graham, Sly Stone, Hendrix, Cee-lo, Foo Fighters, Ohio Players, Commodores, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Sarah McLachlan or any of the others I have been hearing the past 5 years or so. Its just sickening to me that he is just a glorified cover artist now when he tours. Even the guests that I took and bragged up Prince before the show were disappointed and laughed about how he sucked and how he only played covers. We all know he is better than that!!

the tube apocalypse in 1999. a one off millenium live edition of the jools holland and paula yates 80s tv show that was cancelled due to jools holland swearing during a live advert for the show at about 6pm. it took place in the tube studios in newcastle. the show was broadcast live at 9pm on sky one but some acts prerecorded sections the day earlier (when prince was doing TFI friday in london), and prince prerecorded his section at 2pm in the afternoon on the saturday. paul macartney played live as did robbie williams and beverley knight. the acts had rooms at the malmaison hotel just around the corner. a few fans who were at the taping, myself included went to the hotel bar where robbie williams and band were sitting, and paul macartneys band were at another table. prince's bodyguard was at the doors to the corridor and princes limo was outside next to robbie williams SUV. prince spoke to a few fans as he left the hotel to head down to london where he hung out at the cafe de paris. robbie williams was a knob, but macca was nice and shook my hand. robbie was supposed to duet with macca but left the show early to go back to his hotel and literally left macca hanging during live during waiting for robbie to duet with him. robbies band were all nice though, as was beverley knight who i chatted to for a while about the previous nights experiences at TFI friday. i bumped into prince backstage in the corridor and had a wee chat about the night before where he hi fived me during his live tv performance (well it was recorded an hour before the show started so swearing could be edited out)

yeah, but nothing great. i don't own one of the two of us standing together in a clear shot, but he has both video and photos. at the last night of 21 nights at the indigo2 he stood in front of me with his back to the audience whilst photos were taken, so i'd be in those and they would be great. i'm not sure about the times onstage at the ONA shows if they were filmed or what. i was onstage at brixton 98 which had a clip on npgmc but not when i was onstage. you can see me front row at the cafe de paris video and i have a few screendumps with both me and him in shot. outside cafe de paris before the gig someone i know took a photo of prince leaving after the soundcheck and i'm barely in shot, my friends are more clearly in shot. at the 21 nights shows one night in line to the aftershow someone i've never met came up to me and said "i have a photo of you and prince"!!?? and pulled out the camera and there was a shot of me and prince in the same frame. this was literally minutes after someone in line making a joke about this kind of thing

there's probably a few good shots or videos from the cellys in the vaults

Also wrong.

"Guitar" isn't a cover song; Prince wrote it. Part of it resembles U2's song, but at most, that would be 'sampling'.

Its not even sampling - its just a similar guitar riff and there are THOUSANDS of songs that have similar riffs to each other. Its no big thing (not that I'm suggesting you think it is wink )

i've seen prince over 100 times, met him, spoke to him, been onstage, in the studio or whatever maybe 20 times. you lose count after so many times. i've been to tv shows, soundchecks, rehearsals, all the cellys etc. i was also front row at the vast majority of shows i've been to

I was there too (didn't meet him like!). If I remember it right, he did 3 songs, two were broadcast. TGRES and Baby Knows? And maybe he did Everyday Is A Winding Road too.

First time I'd ever seen Prince live. It was amazing. Met a lot of really cool Prince fans while waiting, some very hardcore. And my girlfriend thought I was a Prince freak...... smile

He was quite chatty before filming started.

He was quite chatty before filming started.

Good times..... !

he just did 2 tracks, both were to backing tapes but his guitar was plugged in. he did baby knows and TGRES and then left the stage and the band came back to redo baby knows without him so they could film more angles

you might remember at the very start the warm up guy talking about how everyone was told not to talk to prince and then they let us in and 5 minutes later one of us was chatting about the weather with prince, well that was me. me and my friend were let in first as he organised the guest list and we travelled up from london for TFI friday to newcastle, and you will recall going up all the starts and opening several doors, well you know how you sometimes get a wee shock when you open a door and someone is behind the door, well imagine if it was prince behind the door! so it was just prince, his bodyguard, me, my friend and a guy from the tv studio, and i just said hi and started chatting away, he recognised me from the night before as i was front row at TFI friday, so he was cool, and then he left and we went into the studio got the front row spot and then in came a few other fans, most of which i knew. so i was telling them i just spoke to prince and they didn't believe me, and my friend was telling them i was serious, but they thought i was winding them up. but then the warm up guy set them straight

so then in comes the band and larry spots me and comes right over to say hi as i was chatting to him the night before, and i got him to talk on my mobile phone to my friend who couldn't make it to london but who was at the tube, so i introduced him saying "that's my friend you spoke to last night" and then introduced him to a few other people, and i could tell people were thinking WTF

so then prince came onstage and everyone started clapping, but then he just sat down at the back of the stage waiting on his cue, and eveyone went quiet. so i started firing off questions, and it was when i asked him to release in all my dreams that he got up and asked where did i get that from and shouted "security - bootlegger!" but only joking

anways after that we went for a walk with the girl who gave prince the wand that he picked up during the show and we went past the mal maison and asked the doorman who's limo and people carrier was outside and he said it's prince's limo and robbie williams people carrier. so i asked if we could go in the bar, and he said yeah, so i told eveyone to cover up the prince stuff and we went in to the bar on the first flooor

unlike the scot i am, i got the round in and found no chairs left at the table, so i went to the next table that had a free chair and asked the peopple there if the chair was free, and no reply. then i gave them a look and realised i was asking robbie williams if the chair was free, and realised he musta thought i wanted to join them. i later took another chair elsewhere and as i was sitting i recognised paul macartneys band sitting at the table opposite us (not with macca though, and it wasn't the beatles or wings). then i spotted princes bodyguard so knew he was there, and a few folks later went downstairs and spoke to prince as he was leaving

then me and my friend went back to the studio for the live part and met beverley knight and chatted to her for a bit, and i met a load of other celebs and got maccas attention and he came over and shook my hand. i got the impression that because we were there earlier in the day that some of the crew members thought we were something other than audience as at the end of the show i ended up backstage by accident and in the toilet with robbie williams band who let me drink from their bottle of champaign and thanked me for a great night! i presume they recognised me from the hotel but couldn't remember why

i was also told by one of the cameramen that robbies crew had t shirts that said "the artist formerly known as prick" as robbie was annoyed that at top of the pops when he was number 1 he had to leave the dressing rooms to let prince use them, whilst there is a long running rule at TOTP that everyone shares the backstage area no matter who you are. he also took the piss out of TOTP during his soundchecks, saying he wanted to play cool stuff but had to play his crappy number 1 instead, and he played covers of blur and clash tracks, song2 and should i stay or should i go, plus a new track that didn't come out till his next album

to put things into perspective, after TFI friday we had to rough it sleeping in a car in the freezing cold london november, and in newcastle it all ended at midnite and we walked the streets looking for late night cafes and places and then about 4 or 5am we had to rough it in the freezing streets till 8am when the first train was back on. talk about slap back to reality. one minute you are partying with the dude from the beatles and then trying to sleep on the streets in winter
