I had counted off Lovesexy rehearsal What happened on lovesexy rehearsal that is circulating.at the beginning of Erotic City you hear male voice saying i had counted off and he continues to justify himself.and femele voice tell him to be quiet. What was all that? Was Levi missing the cue or Miko.was he arguing with Prince or sheila?

I have a Lovesexy rehearsal but I don't hear that part in "Erotic City". My rehearsal is the one where he's pretending to be singing to Paris.

That is Sabs Lovesexy rehearsals vol 2 that you have. Vol 1 is good too despite Prince not being present for the majority of it. Vol 1 also has the best sound quality of the two volumes. There is another good Lovesexy rehearsal tacked onto the 2nd disc of Sabs Trojan Horse/Small Club boot as well. Confusion records also released a version of that rehearsal from a different source.
Hell you probably know all this already.

I have that. I think it's the Kansas City rehearsal.
It begins with the funny quote about "Let's be proud of our haircuts." Usually in Erotic City, Prince would say, "Snare drum pounds on the 2 and 4/All the party people get on the floor...bass!" In the rehearsal, he didn't say, "bass!" so Levi doesn't come in, so Prince stops to ask him why not and kind of yells, but I think it's all playful. Levi asks if Prince still wants him to come in at that time even if he doesn't say "bass," and Prince clearly does.
Then Sheila exerts her authority as musical director of the tour and gets the rehearsal back on track.
This is all from memory, so if I got any facts wrong, I apologize.

Funny stuff. You can clearly hear Prince "fake" yelling and stomping his foot. I believe that rehearsal is from Paisley Park. From the info I have the rehearsal was in April 1988. TRUE BLUE

i knew i wasnt crazy. i heard ths ONCE on my ipod and havent heard it since. i came on here and asked about it a couple years ago and didnt really get a response. was wondering if it was a figment of my imagination. it sounded REAL to me, but then again, i only heard it once.
wonder how the hell it could have disappeared off of my ipod. i know i was downloading stuff all crazy then, a song here a song there, nothing too complete, hence me not knowing what or where it came from.

Efan - yes, Sheila does get it back on track but I think it is more in the role of "Peacemaker" (even though I agree that it is not a big arguement or anything like that between Prince and Levi) as opposed to "musical director".
I recall her officially / theoretically being given this title but surely we don't believe that anything musical and/or visual about this tour didn't at least have Prince's approval and the vast majority of ideas, certainly musically, would have stemmed from him in the first instance and not just gotten his approval ?
We can hear him lead the rehearsal and instruct band members, including Sheila, and this can also be seen on the Wembley rehearsal footage from the BBC Omnibus program of the time.
I'm sure he would seek input and feedback from some of the band members about aspects of the show / tour - but Sheila in charge / responsible for any aspect of what is THE greatest tour ever?........NO WAY !!
Not hatin' on our Sheila - far from it - great band member with good stage presence and also seemingly very important to Prince in terms of friendship; can (just about) carry a tune; looks/looked fab and always seemed a fine drummer - but limited to that and certainly so as far as any musical input and/or influence on or over Prince.

you are wrong ,Prince always had band leader or music director.many times Prince isn't even there at the rehearsals.during the early 90's Levi was his music director, you have a soundboard rehearsals of the band playing without Prince

agreed - of course when he's not there he will have an appointed captain to lead the ship - but they are following the course set by Admiral Prince and when he's back on board, he takes over the controls.
I'm sure I could squeeze a reference to "mutiny" in there but I'll leave it for now.
For most artists I'm sure that having a "Musical Director" is essential and thus a highly important and influential role. With Prince I would imagine it is more of a "right hand wo/man" who he can delegate more of the "everyday" stuff to whilst at the same time motivating them, partly via the title itself, to take on some additional band/tour responsibility.
He is the band leader - one of the best band leaders ever (both on stage and off it when rehearsing) - ain't no-one else in full control when he's around. [Edited 4/10/12 11:05am]
