It's on the patio of the Warner Brothers studio lot in Burbank. A little showcase to prove he could still be commercial. The date was June 3rd, 1991.

Yeah, trying to prove he was commercial. That tells the whole story of what happened to Prince in the 90's. That's what did him in. Who but the fanatics here would want commercial sounding Prince? I think people dug him and had respect for him because he was unique, not because he was going to try and pander to kids and grandma.

Cool picture.

This pic was in Rolling Stone magazine if i recall correctly. Right before D&P came out.

I always loved this outfit:the lapel vest. Looked better in black from the Spin magazine cover though. I had a home made one in highschool that I thought was pretty dope at the time.

I would think the fanatics want the unique stuff and the casual fans want the commercial stuff.

I sounds counter-intuitive, but his newer music is the more commercial music. A heck of a lot more than anything he recorded in the 80's.

The golden age of Prince music was not "commercial" in any sense of the word. Purple Rain was not "commercial" it was a "commercial success", but it was it's own concoction of indie funk rock with scary backwards filthy lyrics about god and shit.

True.

Prince proved to the world he could write a comercial pop album, and at a time when he probably needed it the most (money wise).

Cream is probably his biggest hit, and yet it is one of his WORST songs ever. IMO.

Hated the tour aswell. It had so much sampling, that for the 1st time I questioned if he was playing at all. mad

And as pointed above, after D&P he pretty much became a sheep, whereas previously he was the leader. Musically.

Awesome pic though.

The second time I came face to face with Prince, he was wearing this outift, except in black and with no shirt underneath. It was the first time I went to an afterparty/jam session at Paisley Park. It was after the show he did at Glam Slam in Jan 92. The party was in the atrium and at some point the elevator doors opened and Prince stepped out with this outfit on and I could have hit the floor. He walked right by me and said hello. Later they jammed in a rehearsal area. This was the infamous jam session that TTD attended. confused

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was Rolling Stone Magazine.

I think the cover had a picture of him clutching his yellow cloud guitar--he had a typhoon-do, and a black outfit on. The cover said something like, "Prince: Can he Still do it?" or something like that.

It came out just before Diamonds and Pearls dropped.

....I think.

Wasn't this the show he played at Warner Bros right after he signed the 100M contract with them?
