Isten, Excellent. Tron, even better. However, I would raise you both to a 7CD Parade era disc set in terms of a complete retrospective for the serious collector. I would consider charging $140 for an estimated 100,000 sales for that specific project. In terms of gross profit, that would equal how much for Prince? Tron, can you ask Moonbeam to complete a 7CD retrospective for the 1999 era, again for the serious collector. He may need my assistance, as well as others, abut request him to post his initial thoughts here. Again, I would consider charging $140 for a 7CD 1999 era set as a complete retrospective for the serious collector. I estimate approximately 200,000 sales of this set, which would equal how much for Prince in terms of gross profit? love, Spirit

SpiritOtter,
It isn't so much what I could afford, more what I would be willing to pay. Having being stung in the past by Prince I wouldn't pay a penny over £50, and even then I'd spend time thinking it over & would ideally want to see independent reviews and sample some of it myself. I'm still smarting over things like "Emancipation", "Crystal Ball", "Lotusflower", the "Rave" DVD...

SpiritOtter, you are CLEARLY implying that:
EITHER - You are involved in a negociation with Prince on a release project associated with a book you'd have written, something that you cannot expect anyone here to believe unless you become specific about it, explain the whole thing clearly and quit being cyptic.
OR - You are planning to release and sell a collection of bootlegs alongside your book (which would, basically, lead you directly to jail - unless of course you live in India where the government has been quite clear about their unwillingness to respect international copyright issues - not to mention the fact that very few people are still willing to pay money for bootlegs, particularly if there's nothing new under the sun).
You are NOT implying that this is a "what if" thread.
Therefore, your behavior goes against forum rules that IIRC state that: - one should not try to impersonate Prince or his representatives/associates - one shouldn't post fake tracklists - one shouldn't advertise bootlegs (admitting Option #2 is your scenario) - one shouldn't be a troll (even though you are being polite with everyone, confusing people this way is a form of trolling since it makes them waste their time).
Therefore PLEASE state clearly what your purpose here is, or expect some people to ask the mods for this thread to be locked.
Peace. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

if this thread is still cooking i may have more time to run down the list in detail .. but for now prince would do very well to drop 10 outtakes/boots for 10 bucks on a single disk with decent period photos and some good liner notes .. this 21 nights book crap and other ventures in general retardation does him no favors .. it wouldnt hurt to put out a live series like pearl jam or phish .. he would make tons with very little work .. seems he would rather stare at his purple navel tho

Just listened to The Dream Factory boot again; with boots like these who needs an officially sanctioned boot collection? We Can Funk may just be my favorite Prince song of all time (for now anyway!) Well then surely a disc representing alternate versions of the album tracks such as Clare Fisher's fully orchestrated album and rough mixes like "Little Girl Wendy's Parade", etc. should be included.
The entire unedited Birthday Parade show and the Le New Morning aftershow would cover the live content beautifully.
Perhaps a release of The Flesh could be considered a companion piece to Parade like the first 3 Madhouse albums were to Sign, Black & Lovesexy. "Junk Music" was even included in the film.

I was reading this entire thread last night...
I could feel a smile on my face each 5 secs...
I have a question: How long does April Fools' Day last in the .org?
Oh...
And as it seem it goes with this thread, I have to say P called me this morning and said the prices mentioned here are still TOO CHEAP. He wants a better offer for his boots!!
Anyway, If P were not in that religion I think about this and it doesn't sound so crazy. He could be offering his old material remastered for good money and screw WB for sure at the same time. I'm talking about his official material. Not to mention the vault stuff.
But well... He IS a JW now (what is a good reason for not wanting to remaster all those songs full of (explicit) sex(ual innuendos) and bad language)
Peace.

I don't know what to make of this thread. I'd pay $199 for the set but there's a fair bit on there I don't like. To really get me excited it'd need some unheard stuff on there rather than a load of tracks we already have in pretty good quality.
Of course, my willingness to pay is based on P getting paid. If it's a fans mastabatory bootleg release, I'll wait and dload for free.
Oh and whoever gets paid. Book shmook, not interested. [Edited 4/10/12 15:26pm] RIP

The retrospective edition requires time, work and input from various sources, including Warner Brothers. It also requires strong distribution channels to be fit for the marketplace, even if the demographic is uptown 500,000 consumers with high standards regarding expectations on the quality of the delivered product. Also, at the potential pricing points for the various products, as well as the multi million dollar gross revenue generation, the project requires strong business acumen as well as a world class team. genius retrospective for a genius is required to celebrate his legacy, move forward with new music and please both old hardcore fans and potentially treat his newer fans with a delectable treat if and when they can afford to be hardcore. SpiritOtter said: TheDigitalGardener,
Yours is a good query.
$1999.00 is a potential price that has been suggested for the product. However, like yourself, I blinked.
Therefore, I was wondering what you would pay for:
1. 3 Double Records / 3 Double CDs / 1 DVD of unreleased Prince music (e.g. above) 2. 7, as yet unreleased, live DVD's of specific tours + associated aftershows (Blue-ray) 3. 1, 200-page, illustrated and photographed, independent Prince-authorised biography
And how many people do you think would buy it at your suggested price?

An officially released collection of previously unreleased songs and out-takes is definitely something I would consider buying, as long as it wasn't priced prohibitively.
For a bootleg collection of songs that somebody has subjectively "considered of GENIUS* quality in terms of creative concept, execution and, overall, wow factor" and cobbled together, all of which I probably already have, I would pay precisely £0 - even if it were bundled with a pretentious book.
