love for The Line Think i just heard it for the first time. Why didn' this get one of the LS b-sides, at least??? "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

As much as I love Scarlett Pussy (which feels more like something from the SOTT era, which it probably is) I thought the Line would have worked as a B side too, since the message Ingrids Poem is used in the Lovesexy concerts 2nd half opening.
It probably would have been worked on more to sound more like Lovesexy music.
the Line & the Future have similar feels/vibe,

love the Future, most people believe that a lot of the Batman music was already created 1-3 years prior and Prince pulled it up for the movie use. th Future was probably made around the same time as the Line
The Line is an unreleased song recorded on 22 December, 1987

The Line was included on an early version of the album, compiled on 21 January, 1988, but was removed for a February configuration, replaced by I Wish U Heaven.

Eric Leeds said Prince really thought he was on to something with The Line, yet it seemed to fizzle out and put the song on the shelf.
It starts off pretty funky, but it does lose some steam towards the end. Always seemed like a late addition to Lovesexy to me. __________________________________________________

Wouldn't it have been a bit odd on Lovesexy, with it featuring Boni on lead vocals? As a spin-off track for a possible Boni album or a b-side (like Scarlet Pussy features Sheila), maybe... Just seems odd that he considered it for Lovesexy. blah blah blah

what a completely retarded song.
Boni... what we gon' do? kangaroo?

It's okay but the music is better than the lyrics. Not sure why he didn't push this idea a bit more and maybe sculpt it a bit with some real lyrics.
Sometimes you can tell when Prince is treading water on an idea trying to jumpstart it. This song feels pretty unfinished.

I think Eye No was really a perfect opener for that album
The Line could have been a cool B side

it looks like you're absolutely right. Princevault says there's a complete version with overdubs & what we've heard is the demo. blah blah blah
