Great Songs -- Sketchy Vocals

Piggy-backing off an earlier post, how about songs that are pretty cool that suffer from questionable vocals... I know often Prince is attempting to humorous but sometimes he kills a song because of it. My tops:

Do U Lie

Condition of the Heart

P Control (specifically the falsetto in the chorus)

You're nuts. Do U Lie? and Condition of the Heart are friggin' great from top to bottom.

You wanna talk sketchy vocals - let's talk about the vocal version of God. disbelief

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I love the vocals on Animal Kingdom. It's the boneheaded lyrics I could do without.

It's almost the opposite for me. I dont mind the song or lyrics but that nasal whine..oh my damn. I want him to be so damn quiet.

I adore all of the three songs you listed mainly because of the vocals. I think sketchy, quirky, almost obtrusive vocals are part of Prince's signature sound.

The only one I don't like because of the vocal weirdness is Everybody Loves Me. I get why he did it, but it's just too much for my ears. lol

I love the singing on "Do U Lie?" and "Rave"; and I think "Animal Kingdom" is a terrible song in every way - music, lyrics and vocals..

Looks like I really kicked a hornet's nest with my choices! biggrin

I guess I'm not a fan of the way he used his falsetto on Condition -- I think I would have liked it more if he'd sung it more in the vein of Empty Room. Instead it reminds me of the over-the-top vocals of Strays of the World or 3 Chains.

Do U Lie feels like a parody. Cool little song but it doesn't sound like he's taking it too seriously

As for the AHHHHHH! Pussay Controwal chorus, I guess it's just me that thinks it's a wee bit out of place...

All just one guy's humble opinion -- no slaps from Tricky needed smile

The Pussy Control falsetto is supposed to be funny.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I kinda agree on "P. Control".. it doesn't bother me much because I like the rest of the song, but I don't like that part..

Animal Kingdom

This always reminded me of a Billy Corgan/Smashing Pumpkins impression, or more specifically , Stephen Lynch's 'What If the guy from the Smashing Pumpkins Lost His Car Keys'.. (Used to be on O&A 10 or so years ago, pretty easy to find on youtube too..)
