On this date in 2006, Prince was the ruler of the record charts. His album "3121" captured the number-one spot, with SoundScan reporting it had sold more than 183,000 copies. It was the first time in nearly two decades he has posted a top-selling album.

Everybody's lookin 4 the ladder, it's in the garage

I know, we were all going apeshit over that album here on the org. It was truly the last album that MOST orgers just loved. I still love it. Late March was always a great time for album. in 1987 we got Sign and in 2006 we got 3121

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I was over at the quake when it came out and it was the first album to come out for me whilst being a fan. 2005 had been pretty dry, especially in the UK. But the Te amo corazon video came out toward the end (which I felt to be a tad boring, but now I absolutely love it). Then the Black sweat video omfg

Then came the album, which I still love to this day. I'm glad I was around for the last commercial Prince album to date. It was fun seeing him on TV what felt like every 2 seconds and seeing all the adverts. Really felt the hype. 3121 was an awesome summer album as well. Literally had it playing right through its release til september. Great album biggrin

I have fond memories from that period when 3121 came out and it got played a lot on my stereo. Prince was on his way up with that album but the subsequent albums, even if they were good, broke the upgoing trend.

Really? It seems to me that most people on this site now hate this album.

Personally, it's about 50/50 for me. I liked "Incense and Candles" + everything from "Fury" onward. The rest was meh to me..

I think the response was quite mixed back then.

I, for one, was quite disappointed in it. The songs were quite strong, but in overall it just didn't seem like an album Prince should have been making at that point in his career. Maybe I just had too high expectations for it.
