Get Off, from New Power maxi single, yea or nay!

Takin a ball walk, takin a ball walk!

Who likes this ditty from the mostly meaningless New Power Generation maxi single from 1990? Obviously Prince wanted to update the song, redoing it for Diamonds and Squirrels. I certainly think that the original is a fun song with a jammin flow and beat. It's not much, but it does make your foot tap.

moderated yea for this brotha. nod

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Takin' a ball walk?!?!

I think you mean "takin' her for a walk."

Anyway, I absolutely love this song. This and Loveleft, Loveright are two of my favorite b-side jams.

i think the only thing the two songs share is an almost identical name.

or are there elements in the composition that are the same? if so, the

similarities have never jumped out at me.

as far as yay or nay goes, this one is a big fat yay for me.

love the song. love, love, love it.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

The 7 note motif played on flute in 'Get Off' was played, I think on guitar, on some mixes of 'Gett Off'.

I like the riff. I didn't especially like this when I first heard it, but it's somehow grown more impressive in the intervening years

I pretty much loathe all of those nineties remix b-sides. For the most part they sound horribly dated and trendy. Such a wasted opportunity. Instead of giving us crappy remixes done by outside producers he could have included all new b-sides as he did in the eighties.

How many actual new b-sides did we get in the nineties? Was "Rock and Roll is Alive! (and it Lives in Minneapolis)" the only one?

Pretty much yes, I suppose the singles that had album tracks as b-sides don't really count. The rest were all remixes, or variations of the title track.

In the nineties, unique non-album songs:

Horny Pony

Rock 'N' Roll Is Alive! (And It Lives In Minneapolis)

'Call The Law' later appeared on 'Gold Nigga' and there were the sample-based recordings, '2 Whom It May Concern' and 'On Sale Now!' The rest were versions (remixes, edits, versions etc) of songs feautured on existing albums, or previously-released B-sides.

Ah, I forgot about "Horny Pony." Well spotted.

Nay.

I think it's one of the worst pieces of music that he has ever released, although I find some parts of it quite funny.

It's not an early version of "Gett Off". They're two different tracks. The unreleased track called "Glam Slam '91" contains some of the verses of "Gett Off" though.

I think the basic track for those mixes was also used on '(Come Outside And) Play', My Tree, Positive Place and probably others (?) Good beat but well over used IMHO!

Not my favourite. Its okay and has some funky parts, but those typical late 80s synth-guitar chord hits make it sound very dated.
