'God' Borrows Chord Structure from the Who 1st post...btw.. noticed , when listening to Quadrophenia today, that 'Cut My Hair' / 5:15 has a 7-chord round that is seemingly identical to those in the melody to 'God' .. an odd source of inspiration, or just coincidence?

There are only so many chord progressions possible that make any sense to the ear. Prince's innovations have NOTHING to do with chord progressions.

I can see why one song reminds you a bit of the other but I don´t really hear a similarity in the chord structure...then again, I don´t know enough about the technical aspects of music. I´d say the beginning does remind me of it because some of the instruments are similar, or the way they sound but the melody is not similar. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

okay, i certainly don't mean it as a slight... but I looked up the chords , and hearing both, I can't see how one can't make out a distinct similarity.... I can't think of another song with such a close arrangement...

Maybe I didn´t listen to the same version on YT. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

The Beautiful Ones has the same Baba O Riley chords.

@ carlcranshaw.. Very true, very true, though that is a more common progression, and only 3 chords.. I would say that would be MORE Evidential of the influence, rather than less.. but what guitar player, black or white, soul or rock, wouldn't be familiar with Townshend's rhythmic contribution to guitar (not that P would admit it, seeing as he had ['never heard 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' prior to the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame Concert'] )

Not connected but whenever I hear "Substitute" it makes me think of Prince.
I don't know why lol. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
