Was "Rainbow Children" tour the last time.. That Prince put out an album that was the main content of the tour? He always did this with every album up to that point. Has he just been paying the bills since? Nothing wrong with that, but I can't imagine him doing that now. Do you remember during that tour when he said "Who's here to get your Purple Rain on?"..."Well you're at the wrong party tonight. That was 1984...this is 2002!" Those days are gone. Your thoughts???

Yeah it's like he just gave up on anyone caring about his new music...or maybe he just wants to "pay the bills" as you say, and he figures he can do that better as a nostalgia act. I dunno but it is sad.

TRC and the ONA Tour was so preachy and heavy handed at times that I think he just wanted to have some fun and plug the "real music by real musicians" tag line he's been peddling.
Nothing wrong there. Plus it's been a real heavy few years for everyone that maybe he just wanted to bring some fun to the masses.

No, when he promoted the "Musicology" tour, he performed the title track on television and on tour. He also performed songs from the album during the show. The big difference was that the "Musicology" tour was mostly the 20th anniversary of Purple Rain, so he concentrated on that material and sprinkled in "Musicology" material. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I guess he just wants to pay his bills.... ONA was a great tour, probably one of his best musically...but it wasn't a big $$$ earner (although the fan/ms appreciated it A LOT!!)....
the hits tours have served him well... so well in fact that I hope he can afford to mix things up a little more..
I'd like to witness a tour the likes of which Prince hasn't dared to put together.... something that isn't just thrown together like the last few years...something that was actually planned... an experience that had more than just the hits and too many covers....
in other words, step it up Prince...we know you've been cruising lately....time to bring us your A-Game!! [Edited 3/26/12 1:09am]

He played like, what, three songs from Musicology on that tour? That's not even worth a mention, because that album is full of potentially brilliant live stuff, but three songs just isn't enough.

I had high hopes for Lotusflow3r to be played live. He seemed to really be into the material when he promoted the album (and he did play a couple of them songs live), but it was still not enough. I wanted a "Lotusflow3r Tour" where he would play at least 90% of the album and just make people learn how to enjoy new material again.
And I'm still hoping the next album will make him seem more interested in his own music, so that he will feel obligated to spread it on the masses live.

Not every album. The Jam of the Year Tour did not feature much material from Emancipation.

I didn't know he did a Rainbow Children tour?? 1 Night Alone and the Rainbow Children were mixed up together.
I think it was prior to this that he didn't do concept tours.
Maybe I'm wrong but I always saw Lovesexy as the last full concept(featuring 90% of the songs from the album) tour

If he came to my town today I dont think I would be that excited. I know I would go and im sure he would do great. Im just over the hits.

One nite alone = best tour ever Greatest show I've ever seen.. Brilliant song choices, band and arrangements + love The Rainbow Children "Still Crazy 4 Coco Rock"

I'd say Diamonds and Pearls and Ultimate (gold experience) were pretty concept-y
For d+p you had a pretty unique set and majority of the album was performed (including newer material) and am I right in saying Ultimate experience was the last set to be dressed by Roy Bennet and that tour featured a good portion of TGE... I'd say they were the last truly conceptual PRince tours... and yeah looking at it now ONA definitely

Musicology Call My Name On The Couch Reflection Life O' The Party Dear Mr. Man
All of these were played on the tour. "Musicology," "On The Couch," and "Life O' The Party" were played at almost every show. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

the last album where he played the majority of the album was the gold experience tour ona was the last time he really challenged the audience and the band and left the hits 2 the curb
miss that prince man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

On the couch was played about 10 times -_- NOT on almost every date. And Life o the Party was just the lyrics over James Browns' Hot Pants.

Yeah... I think most people will agree with me when I say that he actually didn't tour the album, but mostly played old hits and sprinkled one or two songs from the latest album into every show (much like he does today), even though I think it should be exactly the other way round...

I agree with you all, but I would still consider it as him promoting the project. After all, the "Musicology" tour was a celebration of Purple Rain and nothing else. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

He did give away the album with the tickets, so there was no real need to promote the album. He rather promoted his own live gigs, which had very little to do with the album itself.

I loved the ONA shows! I think maybe some of my faves though some of the hitnrun shows were awesomeness. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Do some people actually believe that someone with millions of dollars really needs to "pay his bills"?lol. Please millionaires have trust funds and investments. He could live the rest of his life and never have to work again. He has never seemed like a greedy money-grubber like say Madonna or The Rolling Stones who jack their ticket prices and turn out one crap albulm after the next. No doubt he is making bank but I don't have the impression that is his primary goal. Prince has always seemed more about the music. I think he plays what he wants and for whatever reason. He truly seems concerned about the fans and them enjoying the show. In many ways he has always seemed like a throw back to the old great blues and jazz performers from the early part of the century where it was an interactive experience with the audience and not a one-way ego trip with the "rock star" on stage and everybody sitting in their seats just watching.

So, you don't think charging someone $77 to access a website in 2009 wasn't a money-making move?
You don't think blocking youtube videos and threatening to sue is not a money making move?
What about charging $50 for a cd and not refunding people their money and giving them a t-shirt instead is a good business practice?
I'm not trying to hate on Prince or anything, but he is about getting paid like every other person. Millionaires tend to work harder than the average person to increase their funds...moreso than non-millionaires. It's just a fact. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
