I'm only 20 years old, although I turn 21 in July. So I'm one of the younger fans compared to all of you. I got into Prince around 2008. Before listening to Prince I'd been a huge Michael Jackson fan (since I was five years old) and this is hilarious but I decided to check out Prince's music after watching that video of Michael Jackson, James Brown and Prince on stage. Yeah, I'd heard of Prince before that, but never really bothered or had any inclination to listen to his music.

The first song I heard was 'When Doves Cry', but that's mainly because I didn't know where to start. So I just typed into Google something along the lines of, "What is Prince's best song?" I guess it was something really different, I'd never heard of anything sounding like that. Then I *cough* torrented his entire discography, and I think the first song I listened to was Lolita from 3121.

After listening to several songs, I decided that I really liked this music, so I bought Ultimate Prince from the store. I played 1999, Controversy and Little Red Corvette to death. The latter song is the one which turned me from a casual admirer of his music to a fan. Maybe it's because I'm a younger fan, and I haven't grown up listening to Prince, and I discovered him so recently, but I still like his music despite the criticism it seems to receive by some of the older fans. I don't really wish or care if he chooses to venture into other musical genres. I mean, he's released such an immense body of work and he's dabbled into so many different genres already, so it doesn't really matter to me what he chooses to do.

I will buy whatever he puts out....on my wishlist? I hope he experiments more with new styles, sounds...he has the experience and great ear to make some great (different) music. IMO, he's been

playing too safe lately, while still making great music.

I hope something inspires him soon, this usually is the catalyst for him to make great stuff.

Sure! I'm just a few months younger than Prince and I figure that if he can rock, I can too.

Actually, I figure that if Bruce Springsteen - 9 years older than me - can still rock, I've got at least nine more years of rocking ahead of me!

I am a fan since I bought the 1999 album in feb. 1983. Almost 30 years ago.

I don't like Prince's albums since he left Warner Bros. in 1995 (The Gold Experience).

I mean: I am very demanding, high expectations... and I am usually disappointed with Prince's albums.

Still some great songs on there, but also some very weak and annoying songs.

I really dislike an album like 3121 - and also Planet Earth - Lotusflower/ MplSound is a little better.

20Ten - some good songs, but can't compare this album to his earlier masterpieces, 1980 to 1988.

Prince still deliveres at his concerts, unfortunately not so much on his albums..

i think it has to do with as i grew up, i could attach something in my life to each new prince album. Now i am old... and there are so few big events that there is nothing to link the song to.

This album was the truth for me. 1958-1993. He lost me (musically) after this release.

I consider myself lucky, I got became a fan when I bought the "For You" album.

I still dig Prince. The only thing I feel is a forced restriction in his lyrics lately. I think he should go back to a no restriction policy and let the art speak for itself. He can change the lyrics to clean before he releases the stuff-but then we are still left with the dirty jams.

I got into him 81 and the entire 80s is still my favourite era.

I still buy everything cos theres always some good stuff, but still play the old albums the most.

I became a Prince fan with Dirty Mind (1980). Yes, I still love his music as much today as during the eighties. No, I'm not surprised that he is still creating and performing music. That is his love, and those, who find their love and are lucky or blessed enough to engage their love as their profession, usually do it until they are physically unable to do it. Finally, I'm one of those people who is not surprised by his current music and religious ideology. One, most people change in some way as they mature. Two, if one listens to his lyrics, he always had a Christian leaning so for him to become a JW is not so much a stretch. And, finally, I'm glad that he's not a fifty-two year old man wearing "butt-out" pants and cursing like he's eighteen and just discovered profanity.

No i'm not still crazy about him, but I still like him.

I got into him in the mid eighties.

I still really enjoy most of his music but I dislike much (not all) of his output from the early 2000's to the present day.

No I don't think he should venture into other genres.

No i'm not surprised he is still doing this at his age, he's only 53.

I will continue to collect, listen to and enjoy the wonderful unofficial recordings that are released. I will also continue to wade through his official output with continued trepidation, hoping that the occasional jewel makes an appearance, like Lotusflower.

1. I´m not 40 yet but I´m in my late 30s, and no, I´m not really crazy about him but I still like him despite all the things that I dislike about him and his music these days. I guess the strange thing with Prince is that while we accept other artists slowing down and releasing subpar material or doing lame things past their prime, we still can´t accept these things when it comes to Prince because he´s Prince and therefore we don´t see him in the same league as other artists.

And with him, there´s always the chance and possibility that it just takes some minor changes for him to become very, very interesting again. He is one of the few artists that I simply can´t just write off because I know there´ll come a day when I least expect it where he will come up with either new music or a new tour that will spark my interest again and make me believe in his abilities again. Who would´ve thought after the horrible 1997-2000 period that he´d come back with the Rainbow Children album and the One Night Alone tour and later fill huge arenas again.

I didn´t like the lyrics and weirdness and conspiracy theories that came with TRC but I sure liked the music itself and the tour and his choice of songs, and I will never forget the 2002 celebration at Paisley Park and those nights there that left me speechless and positively surprised.

Good times, despite of it all.

And, hate to use this argument but....considering his age and how long he´s been in the biz, he´s still better than a lot of his peers, and still hasn´t had a big scandal or drug abuse case etc.

Gotta admire his work ethic and discipline.

2.I got into him in the summer of 1984. When the 45rpm single "When Doves Cry" came out. And when I heard 17 Days. I was just on the verge of becoming a teenager and the music, the persona and his whole background story got me very interested in him.

3. No, he shouldn´t really venture into other genres (though I must say that venturing into other genres has always been a part of his style....using elements from here and there and creating something new).

He shouldn´t venture into other genres but he should take some time and venture into his own genre. Instead of paying homage and respect to other old school artists he should rediscover his own body of work and respect it and realize what made his old music so great in the first place instead of tinkering around with it, watering it down or playing half assed interpretations of it. Prince makes me miss Prince these days. The Funk he´s playing is not really his own Funk. He has created a unique sound and style decades ago and now he seems to be stuck in some 1970s soul and funk revue style kind of shows.

4. Yes, I am surprised that he´s still doing his thing the way he´s doing it. Despite some of my criticism, I see more good than bad. He´s still around, still healthy and fit and looking great and doing his thing, still got charisma and talent, no drug scandals, no drama, and very much into music. What´s not to like about it? Hats off to him and his work ethic, discipline and attitude.

I just wish he´d let go of his urge for perfection and just rent some old warehouse in Minnesota, rehearse with some of his old friends like Eric Leeds, Lisa and Wendy, Bobby Z. and Fink and Brownmark, or Sonny and Michael and Morris, keep the sound raw and unpolished and not sterile, care more about his sound than his wardrobe and make up and money and ideologies and doctrines and just do his thing like only he can.

I´d love to see an album that is not just a formulaic rundown of the genres he plays but maybe just uses one style, and keeps that one style raw.

Exactly. And most of all, keep the sound raw and unpolished, like back in the days when he had his rehearsals in that Eden Prairie warehouse where they recorded Let´s Go Crazy and other great songs, or like that Undertaker sessions. Pure, raw and simple, yet brilliant.

And don´t forget the Dorito chips and tea in abundance. Very essential back in those days.

He still got it but I'm also waiting for some real new stuff because I think he still can pull it off.

<---42. Got into his stuff in 83 with 1999. Will always be a fan but have had my ups and downs throughout the years. He's been losing me a bit lately, as I don't think he is trying very hard and don't hear the passion he once had. But its still decent enough and his older stuff is so brilliant that he keeps me on board even if the current stuff isn't flooring me.

I am 52, and at this moment I am really into Prince, just as I was for years from '84 when I first 'got into him'.

From '86 onwards, I saw him each time he was in the UK - including a momentous aftershow in Camden, however I eventually sort of lost interest between late 90's until 2007 when I had to be persuaded by my best friend to go see him again at the O2 - which, of course, was so marvellous I booked immediately for the following week to see him again in the final show! Since then I've been to France in 2010 and the Hop Farm last summer where, for me, Prince played the best concert I had seen in years (in my opinion muh better than the O2).

I am delighted with his music and have no desire for him to venture any further afield - there is so much stuff out there, and although hardly a day goes past when I don't listen to some of it, or have a look at a video on Youtube, I consider myself not to be completely obsessed, and often find stuff that I had 'forgotten' or have not listened to for ages. Facebook has opened up a whole new Prince world to me with, as has finally getting my hands on various 'unofficial' recordings/DVD's from days gone by.

I would be surprised if Prince wasn't still doing this at his age. He's fit, healthy, and a true showman - I can't imagine what, if anything would make him stop!!

Finally, considering what a bad girl I was in my prime(!) I am completely at ease with the 'new' Prince. I certainly would not want to be my old self, and can fully understand why he wouldn't either - it's called 'maturing'!!

Hitting the Big 40 in a few months. I love everything that Prince recorded (minus a couple songs.."51 hours"). I even enjoy his recent releases that some people tend to dislike.
