And now: What Was the First thought that came To your Mind When You heard/Saw Prince for the very first time?

I don't exactly Remember what I thought, But I'm pretty sure it Was: "He's so... Purple?"

My first thought - What? I gotta get going; I just need to know who this is; hurry up, hurry up... (DJ would say who the artist was at end of song, if not at the beginning)

Intro to "When Doves Cry" caught me. Even on my crappy clock radio, the sound just shone out & I was hooked like a magpie spots a sparkle!

I was late for school, but it was worth it!

It was the American Bandstand performance in 1980. The camera started from a distance and at first I didn't know what gender or race he was. He had a hairstyle that a thousand black women had at the time but he looked so light, I didn't know what race he was. I finally figured out he was black from the sound of his singing voice. Then there was the question of his gender because he had female gestures and was prancing. When the camera zoomed in, I saw the mustache and knew he was male. Then, we he did the interview with his hand on his hip and the zoomed in shot of the big hoop earring in his right ear, I immediately knew he was gay.

1988. i was 3 or 4 and i said.... "he is cooler than michael jackson" lol

I first heard Prince singing Do Me Baby on the radio in 1981-love at first listen. I believe my first time seeing him perform was on Solid Gold-he did 1999. Great performance btw

When I first was his image (1984), I thought, "poor guy can't grow a proper beard!"

When I first saw him in the flesh, from the front row of a 1986 concert I thought....

1. Wow, he IS small!

2. Wow, he smells really nice!

When I first listened to his music, I thought it was terrible. I Wanna Be Your Lover & 1999 were the first songs I heard. I like them now, but didn't then. I also thought Prince and 1999 were two of the worst album covers ever.. and I still do think that.

First thoughts were, I seem to remember.... : Meh...

... and then I remember Anotherlover came out and I was hooked. Then I looked back and saw he'd released Doves and Kiss and I was overly impressed... When I saw he was behind Purple Rain and 1999 and sort of hesitated.... but then Girls and Boys dropped and the rest is blisstory!

I 'd heard his voice on the radio. In his picture he was laid down with thigh high stockings on. Who was this brat with the beautiful voice? He was rebellious, sexy, gorgeous, with talent out of this world. It was crazy, but I knew right then to get ready for the musical ride. Oh what a ride it was, & the best was yet to come.
