Are you still crazy about Prince? I still buy records for my collection.

What musical era did you get into him? Although I remember songs like "Little red Corvette"and "1999"on the radio, it wasn't until the "Purple rain" era that I really got into him.

Do you still like his music or do you wish he would venture into other genres? I like that he is no longer swearing in his music. I don't hate the new music like some people here do. That being said, it's not his best music.

Not as much as I used to be. I still think he is a great live performer, but the last time he came near where I lived I couldn't afford the ticket prices he was asking (over $100 for halfway decent seats). He still puts out good music, but I think he's gotten inconsistent and is censoring his lyrics too much.

What musical era did you get into him?

The second album. First song I heard of his was "I Wanna Be Your Lover". First album I bought was "1999", I think.

Do you still like his music or do you wish he would venture into other genres?

I still like some of his music, but not as much as what he did in the 80s and 90s.

Are you surprised that Prince is still doing this at his age?

No, I can't picture him doing anything else. I still hope he will put out a couple more really consistent, kickass albums. I think he has it in him, but JW stuff is holding him back. Maybe the financial troubles/concerns too.

Well I'm 29 so I guess I fall under the "youngster" category

1. Am I still crazy about Prince, yeah I am.

2. I got into him hardcore during the "Emancipation" era. I had just started high school. I guess you could say I started becoming a lukewarm Prince fan in middle school when "Gold" came out, but once "Emancipation" hit the scene, it was a done deal. From there I started finding his older stuff and buying them from those vintage record stores....my best Prince year ever was in '04 when I saw him live twice: once in NYC at Club Black (after he was inducted in the RROHF that night) and in DC when I was shocked to learn that the tix I purchased from the NPG Music Club were FRONT ROW!!!!! You couldn't tell me nothing that night.

3. His music in the millenium hasn't been half as exciting as what he put out in the 80's and 90's. Though I do consider him the best live performer my eyes have ever seen, a part of me wishes that I could have seen him live during his wilder days. I think he's ventured into a wide range of genre's but since 2000 I don't think he's been very consistent. He went from being extrememly conservative (around the time when he became a JW) to failing to find a balance between his wild days and his conservatism.

4. No I'm not surprised he's still performing and making music at his age right now. I just wished that he would put out music that takes risks but doesn't sound watered down and cheesy at the same time. Though "The Rainbow Children" and "One Night Alone" were great, his last best album IMO was "Emancipation".

• Turning 40 next month. Have been a Prince fan for 27 years now, started digging him after the Purple Rain phenomenon, not during.

• I will always be a fan as many of his songs and albums served as the soundtrack to my youth and young adulthood.
• I don't play him in the car everyday but I definitely will put a CD or two in medium rotation a couple of days a week.
• If Prince came to play in my hometown tomorrow, I would of course be online right when they go on sale and buy the mid to upper range tickets (don't have the money for a table next to the stage).
• Would love to hear a new song on the radio but I know those days are over. There was nothing quite like hearing a new song on the radio back in the day. First time I heard Thieves in the Temple, I about wrecked the car.
• Oh, the other questions. Prince is kind of his own genre so whatever he does he is just playing to the many sides of himself. Dude is one complex dude!
• Not surprised he is still playing...you got to think all that soy milk has something to do with it.

Hi nursev: I am still crazy about Prince at my tender age of 40(lol)! I got into Prince in 1979 when I heard "I wanna b ur lover" and I've been hooked every since. I still like his music (I love the 20ten cd)but honestly, I would like to see him explore the Blues genre and maybe play around with a little electronica and dance music. If I may add, I would love to see him sharpen his acting skills and revisit the big screen.

Oh..yes, I am not surprised that prince is still performing and making music (although it's been almost two years since his last release ) because he seems to sleep, eat and live for music.

yep, I'm in! - 44 & counting!!!. Been there since LRC came out. Whilst I continue to moan about his output I'll always be around! - at least there's never a dull moment!.

No. Music is his thing. Mr. Nelson might not cuss but he is still very naughty. e.g. The "Welcome 2 America" photo of him on that piano, legs up in the air. Plus his hair styles & wardrobe releases (showing chest & belly ) - screamed "Naughty Prince wants to play." Man, I don't think he's stopped since.

42 actually. Been a fan since 1983. That's a lot of vinyl, tapes, cd's, dvd's, and mp3's over almost 30 yrs. I even have an 8-track Controversy album that I've never listened to, but saw it one day at a Goodwill and knew I had to have it.

I'm 40 and I started liking him in 1979 and I became a diehard in 1982 when Controversy came out. My first concert was the controversy tour when I was in the fourth grade.

I like his recent stuff just as much as his old stuff. I'm in the category that thinks that Rainbow Children is his best album, but I also love SOTT, Dirty Mind and 1999.

I'm a bit of a Prince snob when it comes to fans that tend to overappreciate the Revolution era because I was there before that era and I appreciated his stuff long after that era was over.

When I look at Montreaux 2009 and his Musicology tour stuff, I get sad because I think that age is catching up with Prince. He has surprised all of us by getting better with time, but I think the ride will slowly start coming to an end with respect to the great live shows. He will still be very good, but not at top form.

I think the music will still be great because I know he saved a bunch of stuff for this time period. I just wish that he would release it more often.

I followed him all the way through the Diamonds and Pearls era, then.......I don't really remember. I started listening to other artist, then had a baby and listened to kiddie tunes all the time.

Two years ago I saw Purple Rain on television and that got me to thinking about him again. Since then I pop on here to see what's new and shop ebay for his music. My family thinks I'm crazy. I have collected a lot of his albums and really like them all. My husband and daughter are always teasing me about him. They are both fans as well beut not like me. I alsways find a Prince connection to things and that makes them laugh. Kind of like the 7 degrees seperation of Kevin Beacon.

I just want to get an opportunity to see him in concert someday. I love his attitude and how he does as he pleases. I also feel a little sorry for him sometimes. He can do whatever he wants and I hope he is happy.

Prince is the artist I listen to primarily. I would say I listen to him 90% of the time. Of course, it fluctuates at times, but I always come back home.

I am 41. Naturally, I heard Prince on the radio and while music videos were a new thing, I remember my family making a fuss over this skinny dude dancin in his momma's underwear.

I was in Jr. High when I first heard a Prince tune that moved me (When Doves Cry), naturally, there was a girl breaking my heart at the time. But it was Sign of the Times that turned me out... and Lovesexy that put me over the edge.

I am open to whatever Prince wants to do or whatever direction he would like to go in creatively. I have often not been into an album the day it was released. For example, it took me several weeks to get into Rainbow Children and now IMHO, it is an album that stands alone. I honestly thought he would retire after TRC.

In contrast, 20ten has some interesting tracks, but wasnt for me. I went through alot of trouble to get it and while lyrics from Lay it Down may be heard from my shower from time to time and I have the album lyrics commited to memory, its not one of my favorites nor is it an album I would suggest to someone I was introducing to his work.

To summarize... in the 70s, I heard my aunties talking about his sexuality and how appaling he was.

In the 80s, I heard Purple Rain and I saw the movie about a thousand times and while When Doves Cry affected me (there was a girl involved ), it wasnt until I was 16 and heard Sign of the Times and Prince influenced the way I thought about love and about God and about my own sexuality. And then Lovesexy took that to places I coudnt even begin to imagine.

The 90s were fun. Gold and Come had their place.. but it wasnt until Emancipation that I was once again taken to a higher place by lyrics like Sacred is the prayer that asks for nothing, while seeking to give thanks for every breath we take. Blessed are we inside this prayer.... the only love there is, is the love we make.

The 90s also brought bootlegs... fresh interpretations of songs that I personally could not hear until they were delivered to me in a different way. Elephants and Flowers comes to mind. I mean, I saw Graffiti Bridge, but it wasnt until I heard an outtake rehersal of Elepants and Flowers that I really got it.

And with all of that said, I am just waiting for the next album and the next set of concerts. I will be there.

I heard 1999 in ´83, it was a hit but I didn´t know who performed it.

Than at 16-17 in the summer holidays I started 2 go out a bit and in a

small club WDC was playing, I asked the DJ who´s that??

A few weeks later back at school, a girl said I should listen 2 Purple Rain,

she lent me the album and...it was a whole new world 4 me!!!

Not that I hate the hard rock scene, I still listen 2 Kiss, Vh and The Crue

but the time was right 4 change at 16!

The 90´s were different being a Prince fan.

It started out great with D&P, and The Hits/B-sides and the tours but then..

it became confussing. TGE was great but released 2 late after the succes of TMBGIW.

Also, I also listened 2 a lot of other artists and music

and I really got in2 grunge and alternative rock. And in the second half

the whole popular R&B-Rap scene. But I kept on buying his albums and I listened 2

them at home, Prince became an artist I only heard at home or in my car.

The tours were still good, allthough the Gold Experience tour was strange, him not playing

his hits. The NPS tour was better. By the time TRC was released I never thought

he would release singles again or tour, more an underground artist.

Never got Lotusflower, just a few songs, but that´s ok. I got much more at this age than I ever

asked 4 from Prince. I´ve seen footage from Musicology tour that is great, I went 2

Werchter 2 see him with the 2012 tour and he played Controversy and other classics.

The only thing I still "hate" about Prince after 29 years is his way in taking discissions or career moves: his single choices over the years, projects he didn´t finish, we don´t get remasters or DVD releases like U2 or Springsteen fans and... his Slave period!

Yes, I´m still a huge Prince fan, f.i. seeing the Cool performance footage just puts a smile on my face and my feet start 2 move...nobody at age 50+ does it better!

Got into Prince when you coudn't get around him during the big hype in the Sign o the Times/Lovesexy years. I started collecting albums, singles, bootlegs, saw all his concerts in Holland, yea, I was crazy, but I wasn"t the only one.

I slowly but surely lost interest in the late 90s but that's not just Prince's fault. We grow older, develop different interests in life, learn to listen to other music...

It took the Euro tour of last year to bring me back! Big time! I was crazy once again, North sea Jazz, Melkweg, he was better than ever!

Now that there's no tour or album, things are back to normal, I still enjoy his music, I don"t have a favorite album or period, I just enjoy hiss work as a whole. Some of the hidden gems like The War or The Truth can be just as much fun as the big albums like Purple Rain, if only because they haven't been played to death.

Finally I think it's unfair to demand each and every Prince album to be as groundbreaking and impressive as his best 80s work. If you think like this, you're only setting yourself up for disappointments.

Started hearing about him when Controversy came out in 1981... Fell in love with him when 1999 came out in 1982... Sooooooooo Ive been a fan for 30 years... Im 44... I still listen to him and love it! Im not a big fan of anything that has been released since Come in 1994... I like a song here and there, but nothing so good I can play the whole album from start to finish like I do with earlier albums...

i never used to like prince until a mate did a tape for me in 1984, i didnt like it much, but over a year or so i couldnt stop listening to it. ever since then i have collected his stuff. prince seems like he will live forever.

Yes, I consider myself Hard-core about P's music / lyrics and I just turned 43 as of March 1st.

What musical era did you get into him?

Emancipation Era but, all it took was one listen to The Gold Experience and I was hooked from the scream of P Control. I had to go back and buy all the albums on CD and tape at the time.

I more then 'like' P's music. I love it and with him switching up musical styles with the album Emancipation on first listen it had me go back and listen to other artist and other genres of music.

No, I grew up listening to Earth Wind & Fire, James Brown, Stanley Clarke, George Duke, George Benson, Steely Dan, Donald Fagen and artist who have a decent body of work, musically. I HOPE that when Prince is no longer with us and I pray / hope he's around another 20 or so years that albums and music will still come out.

I've been a fan since 1982 and I still love him and his music today. I guess I'm partial to his work prior to the 1990's, but I do enjoy a lot of his 90's and more recent work.

I still like his music because it's real. I'm not a fan of these newer so-called singers/musicians that can't sing, can't play and can't write a song. Many of them can't even perform live, so I'm a fan of any musician (young or old) that can do all of this and perform live as well.

No, I'm not surprised Prince is still doing this at his age. I'm a true believe that if someone has talent, they should continue to do what they do for as long as they can or as long as they want. For example, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Carlos Santana, just to name a few.

I have no doubt that I will be listening to Prince for many more years and even after I'm gone, his music will be relevant and respected for it's quality and uniqueness.
