RIP Recording engineer Tom Tucker, 63 (mixing engineer, ran Paisley Park studios)

I don't think this has yet been reported (cannot find it through the search engine anyway):

http://www.startribune.co...24133.html

Growing up in Des Moines, Tucker was a teen-aged singer and musician before moving into engineering at Lariam Studios and co-founding Triad Studios, which remains one of Iowa's top facilities. In 1985, he relocated to the Twin Cities, where he co-founded Metro Studios (1985-90) and Master Mix Studios (1999-2007) in the Minneapolis Warehouse District.

Tucker's work attracted the attention of Prince, who hired him at Paisley Park in 1990. He started as a mixing engineer and eventually ran all the Paisley studio operations until '96.

"He made it profitable," said Peterson, a Prince protégé sometimes known as St. Paul Peterson. "He was a great businessman. He loved that as much as he loved mixing records."

After engineering and mixing Brown's early records in Iowa, Tucker worked with a who's who of Twin Cities musicians: Prudence Johnson, Jevetta Steele, Jonny Lang, Tim Mahoney, Dave Pirner, Ann Nesby and the Pines. At Paisley, Tucker was at the control board for recordings by Maceo Parker, Khan and, of course, Prince. Tucker's other projects included George Benson, Oleta Adams, Tuck & Patti and Big Head Todd & the Monsters.

It would be nice if we could hear what the speakers are saying, instead of audience noises...

I think someone's reported the audio problems now. Thanks for posting this Bart; I didn't know until I checked in today.

a bit odd that this isn't a sticky, huh? Being that somebody who wrote a Prince-related newsletter is a sticky, and front page news. Perhaps the mods haven't seen this thread yet.
