That's about it as far as I know. What other charitable activities has Prince been directly or indirectly involved with. These could be anything including benefit concerts/records, being a spokesperson for an organisation (like Unicef for example) or any donations monetary or otherwise. Anyone know roughly how much money Prince has donated and for what charities?

The reason I ask is because starting from humble beginnings he went on to do very well from record sales earlier in his career and his concert tours continue to sell out to this very day. I think its only natural that he would want to give something back having experienced the pain and misery of poverty in his youth.

If that's the case I think its real cool how he just gets on with it and doesn't advertise his charity work to improve public relations and gain media exposure.

He does a lot of unpublished charity as well as published. More recently he publicized the Harlem School he donated to.

Back in Purple Rain days he put on a secret free concert in Houston for disabled school kids with an afternoon concert. There was no publicity, but I knew people that went (they had MS). And also it was written up much later by Houston newspaper writer Ken Hoffman all the way forward in 1994 as he looked back at how great Prince was in his book.

You gotta Prince cuz he does alotta good for people, but all people want to talk about is the negative stuff, but he seems like he does care about people.

I suppose one of his most publicly known charitable acts was his own love4oneanother charity. That included a tour and other such shenanigans.

I think he did a concert for Chick Huntsberry (bodyguard) when he died.

Also, he donated some (or all?) proceeds from a concert in Boston (i think) to a young man's family who was killed waiting in line to buy tickets to a Prince show.

There have been threads and posts, random articles and things I've read over the years.

Without finding all the sources for you, here's what I've gathered:

He's done charity concerts/gigs over the years, since the '80s, I think. The last I remember was Oct 2008 (?). Also remember a mention that he's given away the money from sales of VIP tickets and matched the amount. Someone mentioned that when buying the 3121 perfume and stuff online, it asks you which charity you want proceeds to go to. Also, he donated his fee and all royalties for "Song of the Heart" (from "Happy Feet"). There was a lady in the Most Beautiful Girl video who's a teacher I think in Chicago, started some special school like a charter school or something and he donated to her. I think he was supporting a community center and some urban farming thing in Minneapolis. Recently he gave to that Harlem school and the Eau Claire children's program, and Blackwell said P gives to a lot of charities. And this isn't exactly charity, but I read somewhere a cousin of his getting a new car every year from him, and his parents got cars and houses, and he paid for his sister's rehab at an upscale treatment center and she's said that he sends nice presents to her sons on their birthdays.

He's pretty quiet about it, like with the rest of his life, which I think is actually quite commendable.

Prince, like Frank Sinatra, prefers anonymity regarding his contributions.

While Sinatra gave mostly to the Civil Rights movement, among many other causes, Prince has donated mostly toward education.

Interestingly, it's not the only thing they have in common.

Both were proflific in musical output, had long careers, and reinvented themselves more than once.

Prince is not like that fat whore Oprah and others who just give money to get the press (and make more money). He usually does it on the down low and we don't hear about it in most cases.
