Non-musical people Prince admires or looked up to So this was a question that I've kind of been wondering. Has Prince ever talked about his non-musical heroes? Like I know he's looked up to people like James Brown and Joni Mitchell, but how about world leaders, authors, or actors/actresses?
I read somewhere that when Spike Lee needed help financing his Malcolm X movie in the 90s, Prince was one of the big names that donated money to get it made so maybe Malcolm was one of his heroes.

He has discussed respecting Muhammad Ali and Martin L. King, Jr., he seemed to have respect for Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle, and he and Spike Lee engaged in an interview that seemed to show mutual respect. Of course, I dont' think that he saw Rock, Chappelle, and Lee as heroes, but just other artists to admire while Ali and King could be considered heroes.

Marva Collins. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I remember the 1985 Rolling Stone interview in which the interviewer is describing his bedroom, and he notes that there's a really huge poster of Marilyn Monroe there. Perhaps... bleh
