Hi, Gayle

I always wanted to ask you this and I hope you will answer.
Why did you leave Prince's band? I have heard four different reasons.
1) You couldn't stand Prince's fooling around with you on stage.
2) The song head and the direction of the whole dirty mind album in general made you leave.
3) Prince did almost everything himself in the studio and only had a band for concerts.
4) You were angry that you did lead vocals on three songs (you, turning me on and
if I love you tonight) for the rebels album, only to have it shelved.

I used to have a perfect bootleg of the rebels and you sounded great. Sort of like Melissa Etheridge.

I would really appreciate a reply

Thank you
Joseph P.

I've heard all of those too...they are all very amusing. As an employee of Princes band, I was under no illusion that I would acheive personal fame or greatness from working with him. As far as the direction of his music, like it or not I did my job. Prince never fooled around with me on stage, so that was never an issue. I took the job knowing that he did all of his own arrangements and played all the insturments.

I left because I'd spent enough time working for him, and it was time for more personal growth and achievement in my life. As a result, I've accomplished almost everything I've set out to do.

Now ya know. I'm just an regular joe(ann) working like everyone else.

Thanks for taking time to write. I have a new cd coming out a couple of weeks. Check the website for the release date in a week or two.

That's a long time since it happened, and we don't always tell the truth.

I would say that her side, and some of the statements about her believes and what she did on stage are both true.

She didn't have to pretend to give head to Prince at the first shows they played, but later on she did.

Take what she says with a pinch of salt, and do the same for everyone else.

True. Just seems like no one wants to pinch salt when reading Uptown publications.

why is it that when info comes from the horses mouth we are to take it with a pinch of salt? Are we to then believe the rumours more than the actual person? I don't think i get that. I understand there is always the whole "3 sides to every story" thing, but why would she stick up for P or lie about what happened 20 years ago?

anyhow, it's cool that she took the time to dispell some stories.

Because many people are possessed by evil demons.

Remember who we are dealing with here on Prince.org.

Please consider most of the posts you've read from some of these "folks".

Their personal lives and professional relationships are hidden behind Computer Screens (If they actually have a life outside Prince.org).

They'll judge Prince because they can. Even though they post on Prince.org, they keep their lives and mistakes "Behind the Screen". Nobody has a "Confessional", bio, or diary on Prince.org (last time I checked)..

His career involved interaction with several people who wanted to enjoy the same level of success as he has. Some chose discretion when discussing Prince. Some others do not.

I can respect Jill Jones and Gayle Chapman statements about their time with Prince.

Now, they instruct us to not trust the "innocent folks", like Gayle Chapman, who supposedly suffered "abuse" from Prince? lol

Where is their credibility? They cannot "have it both ways".

Hypocrites.
