If Prince ever releases a COVERS ALBUM... ...which would be your perfect track-list?
mine:
1.Papa Was a Rolling Stone (Temptations) 2.Mothership Connection (Parliament) 3.Working Day and Night (Michael Jackson) 4.You Can Be Mine (Janet Jackson) 5.More Bounce to the Ounce (Zapp) 6.You Sure Love to Ball (Marvin Gaye) 7.Delicate (Terence Trent d'Arby) 8.Everyday People (Sly and the Family Stone) 9.Fame (David Bowie) 10.Mother Popcorn (James Brown) 11.Joy Inside My Tears (Stevie Wonder) 12.Three Little Birds (Bob Marley) 13.Spanish Castle Magic (Hendrix)
of course, it will never happen, lol

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Rod Stewart has covered nearly every song written, so what's the point? Other than Rod, and a few minor exceptions, if you look at every artist that has done a covers album, it is usually their lowest selling or top 3 lowest selling albums EVER. George Michael is a great example, his covers album went nowhere. Sting's last few releases have been reworked ancient songs, or reworked Sting songs...and have sold nearly nothing. Prince seems to follow too many trends as it is, and I don't want him releasing a covers album. He does WAY TOO MANY COVERS LIVE...
I can only imagine what this crap record would be:
Play That Funky Music Hair Everyday People I'll Take You There(w/Chaka Kahn) Love Is A Losing Game(w/Nikka Costa) Love Rollercoaster Jughead 2012(W/Tony M) One In A Million You(w/Larry Graham) I'll Take You There(w/Rosie Gaines) I'll Take You There(w/Andy Allo) I'll Take You There(w/Shelby)
Yeah, a few good songs there, but I don't want this from Prince. One cover per concert is fine...a nice way to play tribute to somebody, but when he had shows of doing 4, 5, and even 9 or more covers, you have to ask yourself are you really at a Prince concert? Of course, Prince does what he does.

If Prince ever releases a COVERS ALBUM...
everybody on the org will bitch and moan and cry and pretend like they didn't like it when in truth they loved it and it's close to the top of their list.
BUT...
I find it hard to argue with your selections. Of course, looking at concert setlists, I would change Workin' Day And Night to Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, but, other than that change, I think you nailed it... "I never want to stop singing this song!" Prince in Montreal, 12/2/11, just before performing Purple Rain

But in all seriousness.....I'd like to hear a studio version of The Cars' "Let's Go". Remembering that at the Gansevoort aftershow. It was a hoot!

Nice to see someone honoring the classics If he does decide to do a cover album, it might actually turn out the way you stated. I'd like to hear him play some more Joni Mitchell, though.
