Open Book (Prince´s Version)-Show Ya Love!

Came across Prince´s studio-version of "Open Book" yesterday. I still think it´s a great song! He should have kept it for himself instead of giving it to Martika. It would have been a great single. What do you think?
See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

I wholeheartedly agree! This song is brilliant and Prince really should have kept it for himself and released it as a single. This song is stronger than many of his other hits around this period (early 90s).

Co-sign! This is a very beautiful song, and if the public ate up TMBGITW, they'd devour this one! smile

I would've loved to have heard diamonds & pearls with this and love, thy will be done on it. Imagine how good an album it would've been.

I really cant fathom why prince does this sometimes. he just give really good songs away to acts that are never gonna make the songs big hits, as they only have an ounce of his talent, and the songs are instantly forgotten.

I love the way he sings "but i have awoken to the reality that sometimes is not enough..."

Open Book is my favorite unreleased track, and we all know there a lot of those! I'm not so sure about Martika's "Safe In The Arms Of Love" - if you're going 2 cover a song, cover it. Don't "sort of" cover it. I don't think Martika or Jevetta Steele or anyone 4 that matter could do this song justice. It's just 2 beautiful.
Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

It's a wonderful song and Prince's version really cannot be compared to Jevetta Steele's , his singing is so much more emotional. It is one of my favourite Prince songs of all time without a doubt!

I love this track. I got a copy of it about two years ago and it became an instant favorite. I agree he should have kept this for himself.

Even though the song is about 13 years old,I think it could STILL be a hit today.Imagine if Prince were to re-record it,release it on a major label with a great video and lots of promotion. We're talking Top 10 smash.

I really love this song, it reminds me of some past loves. I agrea it´s a shame that he gave it to Martika.

I especially love it at the end of the song when you think it is near the end and then he throws it in again.

i love this song. it really takes me to a special place. it's so tender and heartfealt. very emotive with a feeling of resignation.

tied with Empty Room '95 as my favorite outtake. and one of my top 5 Prince songs ever. this song really moves me.

Pink Cashmere, Nothing Compares 2 U, Open Book, Empty Room, The Grand Progression, Love Thy Will Be Done. all of these do the same thing for me.

This song has one of the best Prince lyrics ever, followed by a bar or two of no voice, just to let it sink in! A master touch!

Your kiss is a reminder, like the thorns upon a rose
The beauty is mine if I can stand the cut

This lyric is in the top ten Prince, no fuck that, top ten lyrics by any musician for me!
