I never really picked up on how much of a feminine hygiene product you are until this thread. thanks for the heads up on that! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Mark is NOT bitter. I follow him on Facebook and he is very happy of this reunion minus Prince. He made references indicates that he do keep in touch with Prince. Suprisingly I follow him, Lisa, and Bobby on Facebook and it seems like Mark is the main always want for the Revolution to tour like some minitour thing or something to the point Jill Jones had comment on his page a little shade but in a teasingly way how he is sort of stuck in the 80s. But yeah Mark is far from bitter.

I wasn't expecting him to show at first, nor did I really care (same with Family Jamm)
But shortly before the show, Bobby Z pretty much hinted at it on Facebook wtih a post saying something like "Prince you are my best friend, I love you". Granted the context could be lots of things.....e.g.the dinner, him donating $, him giving his blessing etc.
But by posting that on FB he had to know what he was implying and how people would it interpret it (and not meant to to dis Bobby, he hooked up me up with VIP tickets so nothing but love there! but just being honest).
2nd, at the preparty I met some cool people, 1 of whom was going to be working the show on sunday and this person basically strongly implied that P was going to be there, that it was boing to be pro-shot etc.
So even though I didn't really care, by taht point it seemed like it was expected that he'd show up, mayb to at least join in on Purple Rain at the end etc.

I think like many of you; If Prince showed it would have overshadowed 'The Revolution' therefore loosing focus on them. I think he did make amends with Bobby Z and expressed his support and understanding for them and the cause, that alone is abundant, IMO. I don't see the need to criticize him for not showing. It's like when people criticized him for not singing on 'We Are The World Single'. He made his own single, so isn't that good enough? He expressed his cause and support, that should be good enough! YES, Prince never really goes where he think he will go. His unpredictability should be somehow yet predictable in some essence, right?
The Revolution he did abandon in the mid 80's, he is so far from that. He's all about 'NEW POWER'. The New Power Generation is a band and idea he has been on a high on since he introduced it in during the 'Lovesexy' Days. He talks about it all the time, when has he ever mentioned 'The Revolution' since then? He's clearly divorced from it. That's where he is. 'The Revolution' is not where he is right now..But I think it still would have been cool IF he performed a number or two with them...But we don't know what to expect really?? He did give his support for them, I think though....
There is much more to come..AT LEAST WE HOPE! LOL It's Button Therapy, Baby!

is to a thread on another message board discussing the Revolution reunion so take whatever's posted there for what it's worth, but I thought there were a few interesting comments, such as this one:

I live in Minneapolis but I'm not sure what "social media gossip blog" the poster of that comment is referring to. I haven't read anywhere else that Prince chose, at the last minute, to not play with the Revolution due to cameras or non-disclosure agreements (but that does sound like him! lol)...

I don't have feelings about it. In some ways it's a bit weird to have his backing musicians perform songs that he wrote. He's already had members from his old backing bands rejoin him on stage and I think that's the better way to do it.

Wow very funny how fans kiss Prince's behind. He is working with a girl who is only talented in sex andy allo.all tjhe revolution members have more talent in their nails then that oportunistic chic so the story prince is somewhere else musicly then the Revolution can't stand on it's own. The Revolution is not just prince's nostalgia act.they are his E Street band and the only band that didn't sound like hired guns.

I don't buy that Prince has any intention of letting the music speak for itself, though. He's too busy with the celebrity- and pride-born aspects of this relationship. People can say if Prince shoulda coulda woulda whatever, but the fact is that he could've reached out any time he damn well pleases and he never does. He just never does.
And yes, it is totally him for those who would interject that its a 2 way street. With Prince, there are no 2 way streets. Thats what made him successful and thats what he will continue to do. Prince doesn't want an editor anymore! He will not play along with the Revolution the way he once did. He has come a long way since 1986 and he will not, by any means, go back and re-live, re-experience, or re-envigorate those old memories.
He'd come in, change everything to be his way (except now its boring), and he'd inject his subdued/softened/milquetoast approach. I heard some of the stuff they performed on YouTube. Can you imagine Prince of 2012 coming in there and playing? Do you really think Prince would allow everyone to feel what they'd be feeling when they saw such a sight? I doubt it.

Maybe Spin, but as we grow older we change our aprouch. First reunion sans Wendy and Lisa was during the 2000celebration. Prince was rude to bobby then and WandL were offered to publicly denaunce their homosexuality if they wanna perform.but they did perform in 2006.I think Prince change his mind all the time.i predict Prince and the Revolution reunion in the near future.nothing bad with looking back sometimes and drawing inspiration from the place where it all had begun .that is Prince's foundation. All the band membvers are still alive and it would be great if he choose to do it. [Edited 2/22/12 2:04am]

I wish they'd really get together and turn it out. Do something totally weird or totally whatever. In the end, it would be a dream to see them all play together and really bring 30 years of funk to the fore. I'm just not hopeful that Prince could let his guard down enough.
Even when they performed at the Brits, he had W&L damn near huddled off to the side and those stupid dancers up front. Ridiculous. They looked so great in those white costumes and shit, all matching like they used to, and they weren't even given a damn spotlight after that intro. Disappointing. I guess I could nitpick all day and I should just be happy they played together.
I'm lucky enough to say I've seen Sheila and Prince perform all damn night on stage and it was one of the most thrilling experiences I've ever had. I can't even explain it. Even if the material wasn't everything I wanted it to be, just seeing those 2 people together and having fun was an unspeakable geek-a-thon for me. I would be the exact same if P decided to really get it together with the Revolution. I'm just really nervous about it. I'm glad they got this one show together and off by themselves to show... They can fuckin do this!

it's such an awkward question to answer. On the 1 hand he did good to take Booby out to dinner, see him in hostpital and no doubt donating to the cause [I hope!] etc so showing the love is without question. On the other hand to make the whole event a 'will he / won't he' show up really was a big distraction and turned a nostalgic fund raiser into a Prince circus. It would have been fair to all all and moreso to Bobby to say from the get go that 'I won't be performing' or vice versa instead of creating a big drama. Maybe it helped sell tickets?, who knows. Looking at BZ's comments he too didn't know what was going to happen whihc is so unfair.
My gut feeling, as per my original thread is that he should have at least showed his face and ideally just come out to play purple rain - he plays gigs for Russian millionaires private gigs so where was the 'love 4 1another' at 1st aveneue !!. Sorry but taking Bobby out to dinner and making a donation is great but sharing the love on stage at such a special venue would have said a whole lot more.

I'd love them to do a record together. Change the name, change the style, who cares - it's just fun checking out these people together again 25+ years later. I don't know why it has to be such a sour subject. Either Prince is around or he's not - who cares - he's always looming over like a dark shadow any way, so just get on with it!

Prince did the right thing by NOT showing up. I'll leave it at that.

Haha, that's cute - but people on both sides in this thead have said the same thing - so your fence-sitting doesn't say too much really about your opinion.

It's funny how y'all act cool when the truth is his guitar was set up and the Revolution members all wanted him there.

Had prince show up.......folks would have complained about him "stealing the spotlight" and a host of other nonsense.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Damned if he did, damned that he didn't
'No show' and look at the negative comments on here.
If he had shown there would doubtless be countless threads about supposed 'frictions' picked up from the performance, or how, 'Prince and The Revolution now suck', or 'Prince really needs to ditch NPG', or 'Prince made the event about him to promote himself.'
It was what it was: An opportunity for fans to experience the nostalgia of The Revolution and a chance for Bobby et al to raise money for a worthy cause.
If Prince does ever reform with The Revolution then I sincerely hope there is new material because I am seriously tired of the whole 'hits revue' style constantly being played - not only Prince - but all associated artists too.

not surprised at all. Prince is always a dick that way. I expect it from him now

So true. At the end of the day, they were able to do what they came there to do, as advertised. On the other hand, Prince will be the one to decide whether if wants to join his former Revolution band members for a reunion in the future. [Edited 2/22/12 10:22am]

How the hell do you NOT get up and play with The Revolution? Cameras, criticisms of motives, spotlight, no rehearsal time, etc. etc. be damned.
I mean this is the most assbackwards thing in purpledom (well one of them..a big one lol). Your former drummer and self reported "best friend" has a life threatening medical issue and a year later you dont get up there?
This isnt about taking anything away from The Revolutioin themselves because they hold their own etc and they evidently have made some peace etc in private as they all expressed their love for him reportedly..but its about Prince being on some shit I cant fathom at the moment.

It's all good. Personally I would like The Revolution to hook up with FDeluxe and Original 7...that would be the shit. talk about a blast of a show. But I really don't mind that Prince isn't going back or didn't play with them. He's obviously in a different place now and wants to keep looking forward. That is one reason why I respect him so much as an artist. He constantly keeps me guessing...
