Why do so many live in the past.

Get over it, the revolution was over 25 years ago.

Imagine that Prince has two unreleased albums in the vaults and he is deciding which one to release. One album was recorded in late 1984 with the Revolution. The other album was recorded in 2007.Be honest....which album would you want him to release?

lol

IMO, the first one, cos every album he has recorded in the 2000s has been total shit!!! At least the 1984 album with the Revolution will have the FUNK in it, which Prince seems to have forgotten about!!!

U guys don't get it - Prince WAS there. He was part of the audience watching the show (except in the VIP area that is).

Was he really there watching?

I think it would be a bit weird for him to join a Revolution reunion onstage because he's still touring and doing big concerts and aftershows with a new band, and he did kind of do this already with Wendy and Lisa as the opening act on the London awards show. As well as having them on the Tavis Smiley show.

Maybe if it had beena superbowl type event, or a high profile charity.

Was this for a charity?

No it wasn't. Nobody promised that Prince was coming. Even the trailer for the show hinted that Wendy was going to be the lead singer.

In my opinion, the revolution is just a regular band without Prince. It would have only mattered if he arrived. But he's doing own thing working on things with Andy Allo and I think that's great.

I wasn't at the concert but was hoping he wouldn't show up and I'm glad he didn't. He doesn't want to get up there with a poorly rehearsed band and also you can't go back. This is true for him and also true for all of you. Prince and the Revolution is dead...died in the 80s. Move on and enjoy the memories (and albums) and don't think that you have a time machine that will bring the past to the present.

Seems like he gave the show the OK because of the cause? - I would think if the band came to him like the Time and the Family did, it may have been a case of the band formerly known as.

+1. The Revolution were one of the most bootlegged groups of all time. If you want to listen to Prince’s old backing bands, download some boots.

I 100% agree. They have known about this reunion for how long and only rehearsed for 2 days if that and we really expected Prince to perform. People are glossy over this fact, that the Revoltion were not tight. People bought tickets to see the Revolution and they got what they paid for, The Revolution. This subject is like beatdeadhorse

For most of the show I did not care at all. It was way cooler to have Wendy on lead vocals, as I said in the other thread. It was also amazing to have Dez up there along with Wendy. Plus, Brownmark got to shine in a way that he didn't when Prince was running the show.

However, I will admit that the various rumors about whether Prince would or would not show up for the last couple of songs were a bit of a distraction at the end. I kept looking off to the side of the stage for him instead of focusing on Wendy and the band. That's why I'm looking forward to the DVD if there is one, and I really hope it becomes an annual event.

...like your at a big BBQ where the coals are HOT and ready and meanwhile they're only servin' up salad and chips, but what you really want is a big, juicy t-bone to throw on the grill and right over the fence and across the field is the heffer you've been jonsin' for!

Why didn't anybody go get it?!!!

Has it really been 25-26 years since they collectively played cohesively together (sans Dez and/or Eric)?

Yeah. It would've been cool to see/hear Prince and the Revolution again.

Maybe they're thinking of planning something for the future, not right now???

Prost!

That's what I'm hoping. Maybe Prince liked what he saw and they're talking about future possibilities, either in terms of studio collaboration or future concerts. The only complaint I heard about the band is that they weren't tight enough, and a few rehearsals with Prince would certainly fix that. Call me a nostalgic old codger if you want, but if Prince saw what we saw on Sunday, I bet he's thinking about it.

nod Exactly!

Prince took Bobby Z & his wife out to eat not long b4 the show, along with Prince's girlfriend. I think Larry was there with his wife also. That is his blessing & thanx in his own little way.

Prince could've been "cool" and hopped on stage for the final number or something, but the audience wouldn't have let him leave at that point. So it would have had to have been "all or nothing."

Prince just isn't cool like that. I think the more you want something from him the less he wants to give it to you. He KNOWS how excited everyone would be to see them all together again and I think that fact disgusts him. Maybe it's because they only represent a few years in his decades-long career and he doesn't think they deserve that kind of shine. Maybe they're not good enough musicians in his mind. Maybe he doesn't really care for them as people. Maybe he feels like he would look pathetic by going back to them considering all of the places he's been since. Only Prince knows.

But part of me wishes he was just that cool kind of guy who would begrudgingly hop up on stage for a couple numbers with his old band just because it would mean a lot to his fans and his old friends. But he's just not that guy.

I think we should try to keep a more positive attitude about this. Some people (and not just on the org) are assuming that this was a once-in-a-lifetime event, that the group will never get together again, and Prince missed his chance to get on stage with them and will forever regret his decision. But when I look at the Facebook pages for the various band members, it doesn't sound like they're drowining in sorrow right now. How do we know that Prince isn't having discussions with the Revolution right now about working together again? They could get together in the studio and make some new tracks, or talk about some more concerts or even a tour. Now, before everyone jumps on me, I'm not suggesting that Prince and the Revolution reform permanently, and I am aware that it is no longer the 1980s. And yes, I know there are all sorts of personal and financial issues that need to be resolved before future collaboration could occur. But other groups with acrimonious issues have been able to work those issues out, sometimes for a new album and tour, other times for one big concert. Sunday night was awesome and the fact that Prince gave it his blessing is a positive sign. It was an event to celebrate life after all, not a memorial service.

Prince had dinner with Bobby Z and his wife earlier in the week, so it's nothing but love. He didn't show up because it was not about that night. It was about Bobby Z and his charitable cause. Prince showing up would've overshadowed that point. this concert was a thank you to Bobby's fans who prayed for him during his health problems and Vicki(Bobby's wife) even 'thanked us all for saving her husbands life'. Sometimes doing less can mean more.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Really only Bobby & Wendy & Lisa(Who Prince dropped by their treehouse not long ago)is the ones he mainly made peace with. As long as Bobby is happy. As Prince did step up to the plate in his illness. This shouldn't be looked at as an abandonment. Prince may have just changed his mind & let the world c them without him..Since his equipment was there.

Prince creates his own destiny not a band he abandoned in the 80's...... giggle

This thread illustrates how P can't win. Look how many ways his actions have been interpreted.

My own view is that he showed his support by allowing the use of the name Revolution. He also allowed the Revolution the chance to shine in their own right. It was their reunion that they had organised. It would have been impossible for him to turn up, even briefly, without the whole event being about his appearance.

From all reports the show was amazing and I would have loved to have been there to see it. Congratualations to the Revolution on a successful event and well done Prince for letting them have the limelight.

THIS. Plus, why would he join them now, when the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain is only 2 years away.
